STMs ? about when LO came to hospital

When did you have your LO come to see you and the baby at the hospital?   I have been on bedrest and been going to the hospital and Dr. 3 times a week for NSTs and BP checks.

DS is very concerned about me when I go and as soon as I get home he asks if i am okay and if the baby is okay.  He then hugs me and kisses my belly.

Originally we were thinking about having him come up in the afternoon after I am out and able to walk etc.  But DH is now thinking we should have him come up and be there while we have the surgery and have my parents wait with him in the waiting area.  I think it might be too much fo him.

Re: STMs ? about when LO came to hospital

  • I had my c/s in the late morning, and DD came up with my parents to visit that evening.  I wasn't at the point where I was walking around, but that was fine.  She mostly ran around the room, looked at the baby, and played.  She didn't really care about me, lol.

I think that coming up and waiting might be a little too much.  It might be better for him to be able to hang out at home and come up later, well rested etc.

I had my c section Sunday afternoon and my inlaws brought DS to visit Monday late morning. I was still hooked up to all the machines and it was a little confusing to him(he was only 18 months when DD was born). He didn't understand why I could hold him or he couldn't be in my lap.

  • Our son is 6YO and we plan on him coming up the next day. I react badly to anesthesia and I don't want him seeing me sick and get worried. Plus that will give me and my husband a chance to bond with new baby and relax before our son gets there.

  • Ultimately you make the call on whats best for your kid and your family. My older DD was only 19 months when hr little sister wa born and I know that would have been way too much for her. DH brought her to the hospital the next day, after I had everything out(iv, cath, etc) and had showered and was in normal clothes. He called on his way and I got out of bed and in to a chair. I didn't want her to be scared by seeing me in a way she wasn't used to seeing me. Prior to this she had never been to a hospital so I was worried she would be freaked out but she was fine. She only lasted about 30 min before she was totally bored, and DH had to take her home though.

I think you should go with your gut about how you think he will do. Every kid is different.

My boys are younger. My c/s is on a friday at 8am and the boys will come up saturday afternoon after naps. I want everything off of me and be able to move around before they come up. This is what we did when ds2 came as well.

  • My RCS was scheduled for in the morning and DS (with my mother) greeted me in my room after recovery.

We called my mom after surgery and they drove down while I was in recovery. It timed out well.

DS handled everything well and was super excited about his baby sister.

  • Baby was born at 945, my son came to visit with my parents around 130. It was the worst decision ever. I was puking from the medication, I couldn't hide the pain and DS sensed something was wrong. He got upset and hid. The next day when I was up out of bed/not attached to IVs/cath went a LOT better. He wanted to be around me and the baby.

Next time around I'm going to have the kids come visit me the next day.

  • My DD is 5 1/2 and waited in the waiting room during my surgery and was actually allowed to come see me in the recovery room.  She didn't appear scared about me in the bed and hooked up to an IV and stuff.  She was more excited to see the baby.  She was scared before the surgery and cried once because "I was getting my tummy cut."  But once at the hospital she was fine.

Also, if you have him in the waiting room pack a bunch of stuff to play with so he can occupy himself.  My parents did that with my DD and it worked great!

  • I had my c/s at 2 am and DD came up that afternoon with my parents.  She was barely 3 years old and was a total wreck when she saw me.  She's very sensitive and was super concerned about me and the IV and medical equipment.  She loved the baby but ended up in hysterics about 20 minutes after showing up because she was so distraught over my condition.  I felt awful.

This time she will know what to expect and hopefully it will go a little better.

  • Since I went into labor before my rcs, we called my MIL in the middle of the night to come stay with DS#1. DS#2 was born at 6:15 am and MIL brought DS#1 down around 9 or so. This allowed him to sleep, eat breakfast, and then visit once we were settled in a regular room.

  • My parents brought DS up shortly after I got out of the OR. Maybe an hour or so later? They gave us enough time to bond a little with the baby and try to nurse.

  • My RCS should be around 8am on a Tuesday, and DS will be in "school" at that time.  DH will go pick up DS at school at 3:30 & bring him to the hospital to see me and meet the baby, then my parents will come up around 4:30/5 and take DS home with them for the night.  Or at least, this is our plan.
