Movie PSA for loss moms

Good morning!

I know there are a bunch of loss moms that don't go over to pgal. Just in case...

The movie, What To Expect When You're Expecting has a loss and apparently goes into detail about their journey. Between the pregnancy jokes and that, I'm not sure I want to see it. Heads up ladies!

Re: Movie PSA for loss moms

  • I went to see it last night and imo, its not a movie to watch while pregnant, at least not for those in the first tri. I was under the impression it was a comedy but it just made me sad and nervous.

ETA: They touch on a lot of very real pregnancy issues and problems, which is great and I think If I werent pregnant, it probably wouldnt have bothered me as much but Im still very nervous and watching that scene brought back a flood of memories.

  • I read about this on PgAL but thank you for bringing it over here as well.

Personally, I LOVE the fact that they touch the miscarriage subject.  I haven't seen it yet so I don't know how I will feel about how they approach the issue.  In our society women are often left to feel ashamed about their miscarriages and they are absolutely left feeling ashamed about the grieving process.

  • Thanks for the heads up, my husband wanted to go see it together as a 'we're finally pregnant' date night thinking I would've picked that movie anyways...

I'll have to think about seeing it while pregnant.

I feel the same way.  I did enjoyed the movie, but for me personally (and DH), I also left feeling more nervous.

I feel completely the same way! My only fear is that it isn't accurate. That would really hurt. Is she over it the next day? Does it show the trauma or is it a side thought? What about her interaction with the other pregnant friends. It's a joke if she's happy for them and has no issue the rest of the movie.

Thanks for the heads up dear because I definitely had that on my must see list but I don't want to be smacked in the face with a m/c memory either...I think I'll wait until later. I'm glad they are covering the ups and downs of pregnancy...some ladies have no idea about the emotional and physical pains caused by m/c.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • Thank you for the heads up! I will probably see it after I'm past the first trimester..

Depending on how the mc is portrayed in the movie,it may help women who've suffered a loss to open up to others about the subject.

Like you ladies I had heard about them including the subject of a miscarriage in the movie.  I am very curious to see how they handle it, and I hope that it is something that women can look at and think that they don't have to be ashamed or blame themselves about a miscarriage.  I am pleased that they are covering it for now, I am curious to see their portrayal of it, and I sure hope they don't trivialize how heartbreaking miscarriage can be, then I'd be completely disgusted.  I am seeing it this week with a friend, so we shall see!

  • I thought it was great!

I've experience two losses, and the couple that lost their baby was hard to watch. But, I'm not going to not watch something with a baby loss in it just because of that or let it completely devastate me. Obviously, if it's a recent pain for you you would avoid it, but I don't understand why someone in 1st tri shouldn't see the movie.

It was real. Showed many of the ups and downs of pregnancy. Showed different deliveries, how expectations can change and gave some humor to it all. There is nothing more hilarious than a Magical Pregnancy Unicorn. Trust me.

Everyone had a happy ending. I cried three times. It was great.

My husband even said it was pretty good because it was pretty darn accurate.

    I suggest you see it.

The movie, overall, was a happy ending.
