Can't Decide..

So last night my pump broke and I EP! It stopped sucking like it used to. I'm figuring I've worn out the motor since I was using a pump that's geared to occasional use not for everyday. Luckily, it was the last pumping session of the day but this morning I'm feeling the pain.

I have to decide if I want to buy another pump or just switch DD to formula. My goal was to EP until she 6 months (if I could). She is 4 months - so I'm just shy of 2 months. I'm very tired of pumping and dealing with all that goes into it.

Just can't decide!!!

Sorry this may have been more of a vent than anything LOL :)

Re: Can't Decide..

  • I had that happen last month.  I replaced the tubes and flappy things (I don't know the actual term) and it worked like new.  I would try that first before giving up on EP.

  • Mine doesn't have any tubes just the flappy thing and I did replace it last night with no luck :(

  • What kind of pump do you have?  Can you check their website for a FAQ or helpline?  Maybe it's covered by a warranty. I would expect a new pump to last longer than 4 months, even if it's used multiple times daily.

  • We just decided that it may be time to make the switch to formula because EPing has been taking its toll on me with work stress and DS deciding he doesn't need to sleep through the night which means I get even less sleep. I knew we would likely switch sometime but its so hard to stop because I feel like I am giving up. So between pumping I feel like I should just stick with it but then I have to pump again and think about how awesome it will be to not have to do this anymore! I know this doesn't help you but I am at the same place, except I don't have a good reason like not wanting to invest in a new pump or try to get one fixed.

Yes we are in the exact same place! Every time I have to sit down and pump I hate it but I hate not giving DD the breastmilk. I finally made a decision to get a new pump. The original pump I had we paid about $50 (it was on sale) so it wasn't a huge loss. My goal to pump till 6 months played a big part in it. A new pump (double -everyday use pump) was about $250 and formula for 2 months was going to be about $200 so I figured that either way we would be out $200 and maybe with a better pump I might be able to last longer than my original goal. We will see. Plus I can use the pump for future babies!

    Thanks for the responses everyone!

Good luck! I hope the new pump works great!

  • My pump broke this week and my goal was 6 months and then start to wean, so we just chose to rent a hospital grade one for 2 months. It's only 40 a month and the way I figure, that's less than we'd pay for formula, so it's totally worth it...
