Intrigued by EC - Elimination Communication

Anybody have first hand information?  Try it and like it?  Tried it and wasn't a fan?

 Thoughts?

  • This book is pretty good. I read it from the library. https://www.amazon.com/The-Diaper-Free-Baby-Training-Alternative/dp/0061229709

I didn't read it until a few weeks ago, and honestly, I stand by the opinion that hardcore EC is not for me. The book also supports it as a "sometimes" or "occasional" thing, though, and I can see some value in that for us.

I was intrigued as well, and it worked so well on my first try that I'm still doing it part-time. I haven't read the book, but I looked at the website a little. I started when DD was about 4 months, and catch about 90% of poos. I don't care to go diaper-free, but I wanted her to be used to using the toilet and save some work for me since we use cloth diapers. It's pretty obvious when she poos, and it's almost always a few minutes after she wakes up in the morning. I just put her on the toilet and she usually pees and poos. I haven't found any pattern to her peeing, and I don't have the desire to spend more time holding her on the toilet at this point. I see no downside to doing it part time, but I think it could be really time consuming if you did it full time.
  • I'm a huge fan and I still get excited everytime lo goes and we've been doing it since 5 months. I took out 3 different books from the library and the most helpful were infant potty training: natural infant hygiene and diaper free baby. All my family knows and thinks it's so neat. Now that we're having summer weather I'm doing lots of diaper free time every day and my baby absolutely will not have a poop accident without a diaper on so he makes for easy clean up. I could go on forever but I won't, any questions just ask :)
