Finally weaning... but she always nurses to sleep, help!

With the 1 year mark approaching, we are thinking about weaning! We still nurse in the am and at night everyday, plus I nurse during the day when I'm not at work (maybe 1 or 2 times a week).

I'd like to cut out the night time feeding and just try to keep the morning one. Anyone else try/accomplish this? Any advice? Will keeping the one feeding make it harder to transition or would it be better to wean entirely?

 Thanks ladies!

You would have to teach your LO to put themselves to sleep, which will likely involve some form of sleep training to do so.

  • I'm probably going to leave the night feeding as the last feeding to drop. But Isaac has stopped falling asleep while nursing most nights, I think it helped that I started waiting to put his sleep sack on until after nursing. This woke him up just enough so that he had to fall asleep on his own.

  • I read somewhere that the before bed feeding is the toughest to drop. That will be my last one to drop once I start weaning. I do agree that you might need to do some sleep training to break the nursing to sleep association. Good luck!

Thanks for the input! Maybe I'll drop the am and keep the night time one! I didnt realize that so many babies were still nursing at night! Thanks!
