Hi ladies with dd number 1 I gained 70 pounds. In 2 years I only lost 40. I have have pros and all the weights in my stomach I'm about 20 pounds overweight. Before I found out I was pregnant I wasn't eating a lot ..coffe in morning a fruit for lunch and a decent dinner. I'm terrified to gain again like my first pg. anyone have some hints I don't do much exercise but since I found out I have started some.
Any help I'd really appreciate!
Re: 2nd pregnancy need to stay healthy- help
As you're pregnant be sure to eat healthy and often. Have you talked to your doctor about his/her recommendations regarding meals?
Walking would be perfect for keeping the pounds at bay. Drink lots of water.
Are you still eating like this? First of all, you need to eat a healthy breakfast. Studies have shown that people who skip breakfast tend to be obese - you aren't getting enough calories during most of the day, which puts your body in "starvation" mode. Your body will actually burn calories more efficiently b/c it is not getting what it needs most of the day. If you fuel your body every few hours, it should snap out of the starvation mode and burn more calories. Instead of "bottom heavy" (ie, eating little during the day followed by a big dinner), a top-heavy eating habit will lead to better weight control (ie, bigger b'fast + lunch, small dinner).
You should also focus on more protein in your diet - like low-fat yogurt, milk, low-fat cheese, lean meat etc.
As for exercise, you should start with walking. Most OBs and pg books recommend 30 minutes a day of exercise; it's good for your LO. If you don't have time for that, break it up into 2 15-min segments.
Good luck!

I would agree with walking. It's spring time and depending on where you're living, it's beautiful outside! If you have a gym or want to join one, the elliptical is a really good choice for cardio. My doctor suggested that I keep my HR at or below 150 so just make sure if you end up doing something that will get your HR up more than walking, you need to monitor yourself!

I know the feeling...I was ultra healthy and fit in highschool and early college but exercise and healthy eating started to take a back seat during my final years of college, working, and getting married. I put on about 50 lbs with my LO and was tired and physically miserable during the pregnancy. He just turned one and I have lost all the pregnancy weight plus ten pounds. DH and I want to start TTC in August and, in addition to hopefully losing more weight by then, I am much more determined this time around to have a healthier pregnancy (for myself and the baby).
I would encourage you to find an activity you enjoy and try to do it 4-5 times a week while pregnant. Even walking is so helpful for circulation, endorphins and mental clarity! I'm also experimenting with healthy alternatives to cravings...i.e. salted baked kale chips for salty, organic fruit leather for sweet/fruity, a Tbsp. of carob chips for chocolate, etc. Looking at what you eat, I would encourage you to start out the morning with breakfast - it starts up your metabolism and gets your body going for the day. Eggs, fruit, and oatmeal are all healthy breakfasts! Also make sure you are getting enough protein throughout the day - it keeps you full and builds muscle. If your body is running on only carbs, you will have less energy and feel the need to snack more.
Good for you for being so conscious early on and wanting to make a positive change! Best of luck!

I was the exact same weight getting pg with both of my girls. With the first I gained 38 lbs and with the 2nd I only gained 17. After the 2nd was born I lost like 30 so I was less than when I got pg. It just came off naturally for the most part. I'm not bragging by any means. With the 2nd I breast fed and while pregnant with her I gave up most processed foods and at a lot of grilled meats and just salad and vegetables. It got a little boring but if DHn is cooking, that is all he can make.
Point of this is that each pg is different and I swore I must be having a boy b/c I wasn't gaining weight like I thought I was. In fact I gained 11 of the 17 lbs in the first trimester.
