Do you own a bathroom scale? If so, what kind?

(I also posted this on a fitness website, but I thought I'd ask you ladies, too!)

Hi, All,

I don't currently own a bathroom scale for a few reasons. First, because I'm a former dancer (as in, it was my major in college) who had a history of eating disorders, and it's recommended not to own a scale so you don't obsess over your weight.

That was a LONG time ago, and I'm 35 now, and think I'm "okay" to own a scale. So, three questions:

(1) Do you own a bathroom scale?
(2) Is it a regular scale or a "body fat percentage" scale?
(3) What scale would you recommend? (If you have a fancy-schmancy "body fat percentage" scale)

Thanks!

Re: Do you own a bathroom scale? If so, what kind?

  • Yes, mine is just an el cheapo digital scale I got from BB&B (similar to this one), I'd say, at least 10 yrs ago.  It works well enough for me - mine only measures in 0.5lb increments. I know some fancier models can discern up to 0.2lbs, but I don't obsess about my weight to that degree; I see it as a tool.  The best thing about it is that I've had it all these years (daily use by me & DH) and the battery is still going strong!  I haven't had to replace the battery yet.  The display is big enough to see when standing, unlike those non-digital scales with the tiny lines...

  • I have a Weight Watchers scale.  It is fancy-schmancy and can be programmed for different users and such, but I have no idea how to use it.  I just get on and see my weight.  The end.

  • I use a scale at my folks house that is digital. I also get weighed in by WW every week and their scale is digital as well. I'm doing great so far- since starting my WW journey in mid March I'm down 11 lbs :)
