I think this will be like a baptism, but the baby won't actually be baptized. People I work with suggested a savings bond, but do people still give these? If so, what amount is appropriate?
I don't think people give savings bonds anymore - at least no one I know. Not sure what type of ceremony a dedication ceremony is but if it is like my girls baby naming ceremonies (Jewish), the girls got the same type of things that would be given at baby showers or as new baby gifts - some cash/checks, gift cards, books, clothes, toys, etc.
Normally gifts are not expected at a baby dedication. However if you are going to give a gift, they are normally religious in nature. It is absolutely not like a baby shower with clothes, normal toys & whatnot.

Re: what gift would you give for a 'dedication ceremony'?
A freind of mine's daughter had a baby dedication years ago and I got the baby an age appropriate cushiony/soft book.
