Ready to have this baby....and not.

My official due date is 6/28 but this is my 3rd baby.  The last time I gave birth was almost 12 years ago so it's almost like a first baby I suppose.  Anyway, I can't complain.  It's been a smooth pregnancy considering my advanced maternal age (41).  It's now getting quite uncomfortable to say the least with my belly and all.  I thought for sure this baby would be here early since my other two were 7 days and 10 days early, respectively.  But I really need for this baby to cook as long as he can because there's too much going on with our house!  We had a leak in the water line that connects the pipe to the fridge ice maker.  Our wooden floors are ruined and they discovered mold (not toxic, thank goodness) inside the corner cabinets.  We filed a claim thru our Homeowners Insurance and are grateful that this is covered.  The mold remediation guys have been at our house since Thursday of last week.  There are now 6 dehumidifers on at my house, the kitchen and pantry floor have been taken out, the lower cabinets and kitchen island have been demolished, and a good portion of drywall has been cut out.  I don't know how much longer it's going to take for the insurance company to assess how much damage has occurred and just give us a check already.  They know our situation and are doing the best they can I guess.  They just need to send out some more people to give estimates, etc.  I just want to hurry up and repair the kitchen before LO gets here!!  I feel like everything is at a standstill at this point.  The entire downstairs is a mess - the refrigerator and the dining table are in the family room, the chairs are in the living room, kitchen stuff is in boxes in the backyard.  In the meantime, baby stuff is being delivered daily with no space for it.  Imagine wanting to nest in the worst way but not being able to!!  :(

Thanks for letting me vent!!

  • *hugs* yeah let that baby stay in for a little while longer.  Don't stress too much though.  I hope you get it all worked out.

  • Your house sounds just like mine.  We are tiling the kitchen and living room, so all the furniture and appliances are in the dining room and hallway.  I have no way to prepare any meals - aside from the microwave.

Then in the midst of all that we had 4 inches of rain the other day and got water in THREE different locations in our house.   To say that things are crazy is an understatement.

I'm due 6/11 and I need every single one of those days.   So bake, baby bake.

  • Wow, your due date is right around the corner!!  I hope you get everything done.  That sucks about the rain to add to the mess!!

At least you have a microwave.  Ours is a built-in and they pulled it out so no microwave either.  We've been eating out which, in a way, is nice because I don't have to cook but contrary to what people think, it's not easy or convenient to eat out all the time especially when my two older ones have a busy schedule with sports!  Insurance, by the way, is also paying for the meals.  :)

And I don't even have a washer and dryer to use because those were in our laundry room which is connected to our pantry and they're currently in the garage.  So I can't wash the baby's clothes either.

I guess we just need to keep our senses of humor intact throughout.  One day we'll look back and laugh....I hope!!

    Thank you so much!
  • I'm in the same boat! Except that it was a sewage pipe explosion ruining basically all our stuff, and the people that were hired to clean didn't. Mold growing everywhere. So five months later we still have no drywall or furniture and I need to paint the entire house... once insurance lets us throw out the sewage covered stuff. The nursery is completely filled with the only stuff that isn't damaged. It's a disaster. Isn't insurance fun? Be thankful it's the kitchen not the entire house! You'll get it fixed, try not to worry.
