If you make your own baby food...

Have you tried freezing avocado, or pears puree?  If so how did they hold up?  I read that they brown.

  • I have with pears and they don't brown--at least mine didn't.

  • I've done pears, and they do brown some. You can try to avoid it by adding a few drops of lemon juice to the puree. It works with apples and bananas, too, but I haven't tried it with avocado.

  • I cook my pears for 2-3 minutes. They don't brown if you do this.

  • I cook pears, too, freeze them, and never had a problem.

  • I've never had a problem with pears.

I don't think avocados defrost as nicely, so I usually just do those fresh.  They don't really require pureeing anyway, just some mashing.

  • Neither turned brown.  I just froze the pears as is and added 1 tsp of lemon juice to the avocado to keep it from browning.

  • With the pears, once I did it with lemon juice and it didn't brown at all, and then I made another batch and forgot the lemon juice, and it did brown, but was still OK to eat.  With avocado, I just freeze them in slices-- I've read that this works better than pureeing and then freezing.

  • I cook the pears, puree and freeze - no browning. In fact, I think the cubes look really pretty and refreshing.

  • Hi,

I use the Baby Brezza to store and defrost avocado or pears puree. They don't brown because it's stored in an airtight container and ready you can defrost in the same container that you stored it in.

My pear puree did not brown, but the bananas did.

But even if both do - they're still fine. Doesn't affect the taste or anything.

    ditto.

banana and avocado will brown when frozen/thawed - it's just what happens.  nothing is wrong with it though and you can serve it still.
