Cloth Diapering

Tiny Bubbles users with hard water

We have really hard water and I was using 2-3 Tbsp. RnG Hard Rock with Calgon and I was still smelling poop on some of the diapers when they came out of the wash. I switched my first wash (w/o detergent) to warm and it helped a little, but I decided to order some Tiny Bubbles to try instead. My order just came today so my question is... it says on the box to use 1 Tbsp. for soft water and 2 Tbsp. for hard water. If you have hard water and use Calgon, do you still use 2 Tbsp., or just 1? Or, should I just use 2 Tbsp. w/out Calgon? I know what works for some might not work for others but I was just wondering what everyone else does.

  • try the 2 scoops alone, it works great for my diapers. RNG never worked.

  • How hard is your water?

Mine is moderately hard, and I use 2 scoops plain.  If you have very hard water, I would use 2 scoops and Calgon.

ETA: Just saw you're in Michigan.  Use Calgon and 2 scoops.

  • We just switched to TB from RnG. RnG was not working for us either. I've been using 2 scoops of just the TB and it's been working.

Yes, I have really hard water, almost as bad as it gets.

I don't use TB but just wanted to add that using Calgon every cycle would get really $$. I would try without, then if that didn't work I'd try using it weekly maybe. Not every time. Better to have to add it later than use it when it's not needed.

That's true, it's pretty pricey for a small bottle that doesn't last long. If I used it weekly, would I still just use a capful, or should I use more?
