I hadn't heard much about them when I had DS 2.5 years ago. Except for my sister who is friends with a large Hispanic family who swore by them. I just thought it was a cultural thing. This time I am hearing about them everywhere. It makes me wonder if its a fad? I just had a 30 minute phone interview with someone from the hospital and she even asked if I wanted to use one. She said the hospital will offer me one after DD is born.
I think they are for muscle support and comfort as well as to get everything back into place.
I got the Bamboo Belly Bandit, and have to admit I've hardly worn it. I like it for when I'm standing, but I haven't really worn it while nursing or sitting because I feel like it will get in the way. It does provide a nice support, especially for your back. I always feel like my back hurts more than anywhere else after a c-section because it is compensating for what your abs can't do. The real theory behind it is to help your stomach get flatter faster.
The hospital offered me one after DD was born. It helped me especially when I would sit up or lay down. I took it with me and used it at home for about a week when getting in and out of bed. To me it just felt like it supported my abdominal muscles and made it easier for me to get around without pain.
