Sterilizers

Any Suggestions for Sterilizers? I didn't actually have one for my first child, but I am thinking I might would like one for my second. The first time around I just boiled the nipples on the stove. I use the playtex drop ins so techinically I won't really have to sterilize the whole bottle but just the top components.

Give any input you have any??? I think it could make life easier especially since I won't run the dishwasher all the time.

 Thank you

Re: Sterilizers

  • Does this baby have serious health issues that require sterilized bottles? Just plain soap and water (dishwasher or handwashing since you don't want to run the dishwasher a ton) is ample for healthy babies after you do the initial sterilizing to get off any gunk for manufacturing and shipping..A single-tasker like sterilizer seems like a pain to me. But, we have a small house, so a small kitchen and limited storage.

  • You can use Medela micro steam bags to sterilize bottles.  I think one bag is good for 20 uses (you could fit a whole days worth of top components in one). I also think 5 bags come in a package, of I remember correctly.

  • i also use the medela bags and love them

  • Another vote for the microwaveable steam bags (Medela was what I had, but there are other brands.)  I used them for pump parts, pacis, when I had just one bottle, etc.  The rest of the time I ran things through the dishwasher, which also steam sterilizes them.
