Not painful at all and just took a few seconds...I guess its just uncomfortable because someone is swabbing your vag and anal region...so a bit awkward!

I haven't had mine yet, but I am curious as to if it can come and go, why not just give everyone the medication for it or is it bad to have the meds if you don't have the group b strep?
Mine actually hurt quite a bit, but I have a really rough doctor. Plus, everything is pretty sore down there lately. It wasn't a big deal though. It was over in just a few seconds. The internal exam that I had afterwards was way worse.
It's an ampicillin treatment, so it's kind of bad in that people who don't need a antibiotic would be getting one. The main thing is it means those of us who are positive have to be dosed for every few hours hours of labor- meaning we have to have an IV- which is a literal pain. Here at my hospital, they don't give you a drip unless you a) are dehydrating b) need IV meds c) have an epidural.
Even in those cases they often give you a saline lock so that fluids can be removed as needed. It sucks because it's already going to limit my mobility. I absolutely HATE IV's.

did you test positive? I just found out this week that I'm positive, and I was pretty disappointed. I know it's not a huge deal, but the whole IV thing... I'm worried about it reducing my mobility during labour.
The good news: i felt NOTHING when they did it. It's just a teeny swab.
The bad news: I'm positive, so have to have the antibiotics during labor. I was hoping to not have an IV unless necessary, not I definitely have to have it. C'est la vie.
