I am getting on a 12 hour red-eye tonight. I fly a lot but it's my first time pregnant. Airplane food usually makes gag so I don't look forward to that! I am bringing lots of snacks. Anything else I should do differently at 7w4days pregnant?
I fly all the time too. Last week was my first flight pg and I had a rough time with both the take-off and landing. It was a bit bumpy, but nothing like I've experienced before. I've NEVER gotten sick on a plane before, so it was a bit shocking. Thankfully I didn't actually throw up (I really don't want to be that person on the flight) but I very easily could have. On the way back home, I made sure to have Sprite and some crackers with me. Also, I kept the air blowing on my face the whole time. That seemed to help.
I am also planning on opting out of the scanners at security. I did occasionally before I was pg as well.
"I am also planning on opting out of the scanners at security." <-- Thanks for the reminder! Hmm now, I am flying with a client one day. She is going to think I am weird... hmm.
I had a short flight a few weeks ago and was surprised how hard it was. Definitely get an aisle seat, I found I needed to get up just to walk around more than usual. Drink a lot and have plenty of snacks with you. I forgot how much slower I'm moving and getting through the airport seemed to take ages!

I flew overseas at about 13 weeks. I brought several large bottles of water and made sure to get an aisle seat right near the bathroom -- I had to get up every half hour. I also wore compression socks. I can't remember what I did for food, but I find airline food on international flights to be tolerable, so I probably just ate that.
I had no problem going through the metal detectors, but I did carry a letter from my physician stating that I was pregnant just in case I needed to back myself up if and when I was confronted by an X-ray machine at security. I wasn't.
Great suggestions ladies. I just flew to Boston this past weekend. It was a short flight, so I didn't have any problems. However, I've got two back to back trips, one to Germany and one to the UK, where I have to come back to the states 2 days in between. I'm not looking forward to those as I'll be 10 weeks when I fly out for the first trip, and I have to go on that one without DH. So nervous!

Nosebleed, ack. I had no idea!
Has anyone here opted out of the scanner and had the pat down? I've heard horror stories, so I was just wondering if it's as bad as I think it is? Esp. if you opt out and don't look pregnant?

Don't worry about not looking pg yet - you have the right to opt out at any time, pg or not. I opted out a handful of times before my BFP just because I fly so much & I'm not sure how I feel about adding even more radiation. It wasn't horrific, but do be prepared to be completely felt up. A couple of times I did get a bit of attitude from the scanner agent when I asked to opt out - they just rolled their eyes and yelled "female opt out in lane X". Also, it does take a few extra minutes (maybe 5-10), so make sure you allow for that.

The scanners! Aw, man! I went through 5 of those before I knew I was pregnant. How bad are they supposed to be?
