Re: Labor Bag
Socks for cold feet
I'd bring granola bars or something you know you/your DH likes rather than just depending on the vending machine having something you want.
SOCKS! I would have forgot those. You think i should get the ones that have the little gell things on them so you dont slip?
And okay! Thats prob better for us anyways. Thanks.
Do have slippers. Forgot to put that!
I wouldnt have thought to bring Breast pads
Any nipple butter you recommend?
There are quite a few things I have in my bag that you are not including. I'll post what I'm packing just so you can get an idea! Anything else I'm taking to the hospital will be kept in an overnight bag in the car until I move to my recovery room.
Labor and Delivery Bag:
Insurance Card
Photo ID
Hair Bands
Slippers
Socks
Snacks for Coaches
Energy Drinks for Coaches
iPod with Labor Playlist
Word Search and Sodoku Books
Personal Hospital Gown
Mist Bottle
Massager/ Rice Sock
Brush
Deoderant
Chapstick
Tooth Brush
Toothpaste
DVDs
Camera/ Camera Charger
Laptop/ Laptop Charger
Kindle/ Kindle Charger
Phone/ Phone Charger
A nightgown (may be more comfy than pants or shorts after delivery)
Robe
Going home outfit for you and for baby (keep in mind that you will still not fit in your regular clothes, so bring a maternity outfit)
Flip Flops
Baby Book - they can do the handprints and footprints for you when they are doing them anyway
Breast Pump - they can make sure the parts fit you correctly and show you how to use it
Massage tool (we just threw in a tennis ball - feels so good when DH uses it on my back)
Camera and charger
Phone charger
Hubby's computer
Breastfeeding pillow
Comfy clothes for hubby
If you use the spray bottle, make sure it is on the "mist" setting. My hospital provides a peri bottle, which was like my best friend. It was gentle and really helped with the burning.
Um, this might sound vain, but I bring my make-up bag for pictures after LO is born.
Body Lotion
Camera
Okay, good. So glad I'm not alone. I didn't mind a few look how hard momma worked pictures, but I wanted my first "family" picture to be nice and it is so nice to feel like yourself after labor.
One thing I thought about last night was putting a "before I leave" checklist on my bag, since it's just the two of us.
That's as far as I got. Maybe a reminder to grab his laptop and camera.
I have three separate bags a tiny "Labor bag" "Overnight bag" and "FOOD." Labor and Food bag will come in with us as soon as we arrive at the birth center/hospital.
Labor Bag contents: flip flops to wear in the shower, rice sock for pain management, iPod, camera/charger, phone/charger, book from Natural Birthing class (flipped to the page for laboring and delivering positions), info packet from birth center, flip flops for DH, swim trunks and underwear for DH, sports bra (that has hooks in the back so it doesn't have to be lifted over my head), chapstick, enema (will be administered by MWs before we can get into the birthing tub), hair brush, socks, bag of toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash for us both, shampoo, lotion, shave gel)
Food Bag (We are encouraged to bring food and drinks for DH, and drinks for mom for DURING labor... mom is allowed to eat if absolutely necessary but their "rule" is that if mom wants to eat, she came to the hospital too early): 2 32 oz bottles of gatorade (different flavors, for me, in case I get sick, but I plan to stick to water), 1 32 oz bottle of powerade for DH, 2 protein bars for DH, 2 protein bars for me, 1 bag of mixed nuts, 1 bag of trail mix, 2 bags of cookies. We'll also put a sandwich, yogurt, chips and string cheese in there for DH when we're headed out the door.
Hospital bag: Make up bag, three outfits for LO (can't remember what they provide), a blanket for LO, bathrobe for me, nursing tank, nursing bra, T-shirt to go home in, comfy pants to go home in, 3 pairs of all different kind of undies for me, more socks, slippers (with grip bottoms), PJ pants that I don't mind getting ruined (the pair I had with me when I had DS1 was totally ruined, so I'm glad I heeded that advice the first time around), a wash cloth, DH will pack his crap at the last minute.
I'm a FTM and started compiling a list as I read or heard about things... this is what I have that isn't on your list...
Towels (instead of the thin as paper ones they give you), baby book (to get footprint), camera, stool softener to take while starting/through labor, hairbrush/hairbands, makeup, deoderant, hair dryer (i hate cold, wet hair), nursing pillow, large envelope for loose papers they'll give you, extra bag to bring excess stuff home in, birth plan if you have one, anything you need to get LO onto your health insurance, your own pillow, cd's with your fave music, any essential oils/relaxing scents you want to take...
What just happened in my diaper?!
ITA. Some of the lists are way more than I would ever want to deal with. And, I feel, mostly unnecessary. Plus, I know my recovery room was ridiculously small when I delivered DD...
Keep in mind, too, that your SO will be able to leave the hospital and be available to get anything you find you need. I can't imagine the hospital not providing you w/ essentials like a peri bottle.
I agree with most of this. But I always bring my pump, in case baby has trouble latching or has to be taken to put under the bili lights (both of mine did...) and I need to pump. You never really know if you'll need it or not! You could just leave it in the car in case you need it.
Our Twin Baby + a Big Girl Blog
And with the delivery trifecra of one twin vaginal, one c-section with general anesthesia for twin B, Spencer and Sidney joined us at 35 weeks exactly on June 18.
sounds odd, but Tums, I had really bad heartburn while i was in labor and the nurses counldnt give me anything but said tums were ok- so DS had to go down to the giftshop and buy some.
I would add a big pair of pants (hospitals can be cold) and a zip up sweatshirt.
Camera and chargers (both camera and phone)
Have you checked with your hospital yet to see what they provide? If not, definitely do this! My hospital provides all kinds of things that I'm seeing on many of the lists above. Why waste space in your bag, and your money, when you can get quite a bit of that stuff free (and your hospital will often let you take a lot of it home too, because for certain things, once it has been used on you or the baby -- if it's a reusable item -- they can't use it on someone else). And if it's something you don't have, chances are you can send someone to go get it for you (either from your house or from a local store).
Mama's Clone - 07/18/12
You have a lot more packed then I did or will this time around! This time I will pack
2 bottoms (one for coming home the other for lounging)
nursing tanks and a sweatshirt no other tops
bathroom stuff, but no shower stuff our hospital provides it all and honestly I was released within 24 hours so I didnt shower there the first time anyways.
Socks and flip flops for walking around
An extra large bag to bring home all the free stuff they give you!
A few snacks, but our hospital does an all you can eat at meals so you can order as much as you want so I always ordered a few extra snacks with meals to avoid vending machines.
