Help me diagnose this sound

DS has been doing great nursing. The past week, he's started making a clicking/slurping sound when he nurses. It's on both sides, and occurs throughout the feeding. It definitely leads to extra air intake, which is causing him more gas.

I do have a fast let down, but since this occurs throughout nursing sessions, I don't know if that's related.

Thoughts? Should I see an LC? It wouldn't be an issue except for the extreme gassiness we're dealing with already.

  • That might mean he is breaking the suction, which is why he's getting more air.  It could be related to a forceful letdown.  You could see a LC, but I don't know what they could do for you.  DD did that for a while but she grew out of it.

I'm hoping this will happen for us and it's just a little phase for now.

What she said. My baby did that for a couple of weeks and then it stopped. I think I had oversupply/forceful letdown and it resolved on its own.

  • Mine did the same, and it was because she didn't have suction. I think it was due to my forceful letdown. I would make a letter c with my hand and squish my breast so it flattened some and it seemed to help her get suction.
