A little confused .....

Last week I saw my doctor and he said I was 1 cm dilated and my cervix was very soft. Yesterday, he tells me the same but that he won't be able to induce me on monday because my cervix is still a little too long and he wouldn't want me to labor for hours and it end up in a C-section. That is completely understandable to me, but I always thought if your cervix was soft, it was short?

 The reason we are talking induction is because I have a history of birthing large babies and according to the doctor, my frame is really built for that, and both had meconium aspiration, so that's something I really want to avoid too because my son's doctor seems to think it might be related to the fact that he has so many upper respiratory problems now. :(

    Soft cervix means that your cervix is getting ready to efface (thin out), but If your 0% effaced, then it could be a while before your cervix is ready. I was 0% effaced (soft) and 0cm dialated. My doctor told me to plan for a 3 day delivery. I had DS in 16hours. I had cervadyl placed to help ripen/soften my cervix (lucky no pitocin needed) I would ask your doctor if a cervix ripening gel would help you go into labor.

    I was induced with my DD and given cervadil the night before my induction. 24 hours later, I ended up with a c-section. I got to 8cm, but I never fully effaced. I was stuck at 80%. I'd wait it out!

    I looked up what it meant to be hard/soft, long and dilated.  It helped me visualize what is happening down there.  I was 1cm, soft, but long.  Here is the link to the visual.  GL

    The visual helped a lot! Thanks! Was induced 4 days after my due date last time and my poor DS looked as if he should have come out 2 weeks earlier, he looked like a little reptile from his skin being so dry and flakey. I have to have cervadil the night before with him because the doctor told me my cervix really wasn't all that ready, but I had a good labor with him. I dilated to a 5 in just a couple of hours after they gave me pitocin in the morning, and I had him a few hours after that. I'm hoping for the same kind of delivery this time.
