Grant Thomas is Here (PIP and Birth Story)

I had my 37 week appt last Wed. Everything looked great. No signs of labor and not dialtated. My husband had been traveling that week for work and got home at 9:30p.m. We went to bed at 10:30 and just as I got into bed my water broke. (I was soooo happy my husband was home!) Called the dr and they said to come in. We both took showers, packed our bags and I walked around the house a bit in a daze as I thought I had a few more weeks!

We got to the hospital around 12:30am and confirmed it was my water. They inserted cervidil and DH and I finally went to bed around 3:30am. I woke up around 5am with slight contractions and then again at 7am with stronger contractions. They gave me some pain meds at this time. DH and I walked around and labored til 10:30. Contractions were much stronger at this time and I got an epidural. It was great! DH and I both took a 2 hour nap and when we woke I was 7cm's. They came back an hour later and I was 9cm (3pm now) DH and I couldn't believe how fast it was going and thought we'd have a baby by dinner time. We were wrong. Once we hit 9cm, things slowed down.

For the next 3 hours, we labored down. At 6pm, we started pushing. We knew baby was expected to be large (dr thought about 9 lbs) and also was sunny side up. We pushed for 3 hours. Dr came in to check and not much progress was being made. Our options were to continue pushing for 2 more hours or have a c-section. We choose c-section. At 9:58pm Grant Thomas was born. 7 lbs 14 oz; 22 inches long. DH and I are absolutely in love with him!
