Diet changes

My newborn has tons and tons of dirty diapers. We go through like 15-20 a day. My pediatrician reccomended diet changes, cutting out acidic foods, gassy foods, onion, garlic...

Is anyone else changing their diet? I'm vegetarian so I feel like there is literally nothing I can eat! And I don't know if it's helping anyway. It's been a week.

Does anyone else have a baby with so many dirty diapers?

Re: Diet changes

  • Sounds normal to me for the first few weeks, really.  Cutting out soy or dairy would generally be the first two most likely culprits.

  • I remember changing a poppy diaper after almost every feeding for the first week or two.  If the baby doesn't seem uncomfortable and is not crying after the feedings or has unusual poops, then I would not be as cautious.  GL

LO literally poops with almost every feeding so probably 10 - 15 diapers a day... seems very normal to me.  BF babies can poop all the time to once every couple of days.

  • Sounds normal to me if you are eating a lot of veggies or taking a stool softener that can add to it too. If your baby isn't fussy and the poop isn't mucusy I would not worry. They say at least 8-12 dirty diapers a day I wouldn't think a few more would cause a concern unless your pediatrician isn't very knowledgable in bf babies.
