Sleep help...

Hi everyone :)

DD is 2 months old, and I know that is still really young... but I'm looking for advice. From day 1 she has refused to sleep alone... ever.  During the day I carry her in the Ergo for naps, and at nigh we bedshare. I generally love it, but I'd love if she'd even take ONE nap on her own so I could really get some things done...

Once or twice a week I try sneaking her into a bassinet after she's asleep. It's worked once or twice in 2 months! I've tried putting stuff that smells like me in there, using a heating pad... everything anyone's suggested. Nada. Even when she's awake, she rarely let me put her down.

I'm just looking for someone whose been there that can tell me when your LO's need for constant closeness changed and they could be more independant. Was there anything you found helpful in helping them along? HOW do I get her to take naps on her own??? haha

Thanks so much :)

  • Do you have a swing?

The only place DS slept alone was swaddled, in a swing, with the sound machine on, and a pacifier.

Other than that, he would only sleep on me.

DD was like this and grew out of it eventually.

Have you tried a bouncy vibrating seat?

    The seahorse?

DD wouldn't sleep anywhere but on me... then it got to where I could put her in the seat and she would stay sleeping.

Now she's almost two and I love the few times she lets me rock her... now she's on the go so much.

It sucks now, I know... but you will miss it!

  • My daughter (now 3.5yrs.) never let me put her down until she was 3 1/2 months old! They do grow out of it...

I never used a heating pad but I did have a lambskin which was super soft and snuggly (even during the warmer months - because it's real lambswool I guess it breathes).  I could put her down on that and it was warm and soothing.

  • I think they grow out of it. DS only slept on our chests at night until 2.5 months when we could finally move him to the bassinet. He then refused to nap anywhere but our arms until 5 months. Finally at 5 months I could get him to nap in my bed if I side nursed him. He started to occasionally take naps in the crib, but the only thing that really worked on getting him to nap in the crib was sending him to daycare ha ha.

I swear they should have baby nap bootcamps for training kids how to sleep in the crib (it took 2 days!)

Same here.  DS is 13 weeks and currently will only nap in his swing or next to me.
