Breakfast ideas?

Every day I send LO to school with a slice of toast with apple butter and some kind of fruit. It's worked so far, except that sometimes that much fruit (usually about 1/2-3/4 cup, and she eats every bite!) gives her some bad booty rash. Fruits like apples/pears make her poop more, which results in rash, and stuff like oranges, berries, etc seem to bother her because they are so acidic.

I can't send eggs or peanut butter for allergy reasons, and I don't like to send spoon foods like yogurt since we do BLW and she still makes a pretty big mess with them (those are my big 3 for breakfasts at home!)

Any other ideas? I added some cubed cheese this morning, since I'd really like her to have some protein. Maybe if I had some other choices I could cut down on the amount of fruit or just give it every other day.

Re: Breakfast ideas?

  • What about wheat pancakes?

  • Your daycare won't allow eggs? We do fruit, yogurt and some kind of toast/pancake/French toast/omelet.

Could you get away with eggy French toast??  Can you freeze yogurt drops for her to eat by hand rather than by spoon?? That's a tough one!

  • Waffles, raisins, maybe some kind of baked oatmeal?  Yogurt bites?

  • We get mini blueberry waffles or I'll give him a piece of banana bread.  What about a banana?  That is my go to when we're on the run.

  • I would also suggest pancakes or waffles.  i also give DD a bunch of cheerios and fruit for breakfast when I'm feeling lazy.

Evie likes smoothies in her straw cup...that does involve fruit though....

Joey loves thick oatmeal (with blueberries or bananas in it).  I've never made baked oatmeal, but I think I'd look into that if I needed to send breakfast to daycare.
  • I was thinking of homemade muffins or breads ....pumpkin bread, banana bread, applesauce bread, blueberry muffins, zucchini bread, butternut squash bread

Oh, what about cream cheese?  She can get some protein that way--on toast or muffins or pancakes or whatever.
  • Pancakes, waffles, french toast (we give frozen french toast), mini bagel with cream cheese, mini bagel with ham and cheese, muffins, banana bread (that is an awesome idea from a previous poster), zucchini bread, bananas, oatmeal breakfast cookies (I am sure there is a recipe for something like this out there).  My son also loves cheese sticks.  I just break them in half for him, and he goes to town.  Also, do grapes bother her?  Maybe you could send some quartered grapes.

  • Waffles!  We make a bunch on the weekends, cut them into strips and freeze them.  DS loves them plain, smeared with cream cheese or apple butter.  We have also done this with french toast.  Daycare or MIL just place them in the toaster and spread with toppings.

We have also had great success with many different cereals that are low suger/sugar free and rice cakes.
