I have not, but one of my bff's travels internationally for work. She loves Singapore sooooooooo much, that she's considered taking a long term contract there. She's a real pain in the ass, so it had to be awesome lol!!!

My dad used to travel to singapore for work, I can ask him. I always remember him saying that I would love all the shopping they have there. I would love to go...

We went to Bali, Indonesia a few years back and had a layover in Bangkok and Singapore. In Bangkok we were there overnight and everyone is so so nice, hotel was beautiful, but really the friendly people have me wanting to go back. Thailand is on our travel list for when we got back. In Singapore I wanted to work a 24 hr layover but couldn't so we didn't get to leave the airport, but seriously it is the nicest airport I've ever been in with the most high end shopping I've seen in an airport or a mall...LOL! It's also uber clean which from what I hear is pretty par for the course. We will be going back to Bali sometime and plan to include stops for a few days in Singapore and Thailand.

ETA: It's HitchedinIN. I don't know how active of a poster she is these days, but I could have sworn that she was living there temporarily for work, I could be crazy, but I am pretty sure. :-P

I went from Kuala Lumpur by train down to Singapore (it's a long haul).

Kuala Lumpur is very American, but with some crazy humidity and heat. I wouldn't recommend spending much time there. Get out to the beaches. There's also a firefly park close by that I think could be pretty cool.

Penang is a stop off for the trains going to Singapore. It's an interesting mix of cultures and the food is cheap, but good.

Singapore is also humid, but it's really nice. The food is some of the best I've ever had and really inexpensive. I would have spent more time in Singapore if we could have. Guess we have to go back!

Both cities have public transport, which makes getting around quite easy. The heat is the worst, so it makes doing anything outside slow going. That's probably why they have so many air conditioned malls.

Also, the Singapore train station is nothing special and there are no subways close by.

I am so jealous! Singapore is amazing and there is so much to do. I have been there a few times...October, July and March. I highly recommend a visit to Raffles Hotel. They have a great bar where Ernst Hemmingway and Somerset Maugham would hang out back in the day and where the Singapore Sling was invented. Orchard Road is the main shopping area...and it is like Rodeo Drive....very expensive stores. Sentosa Island is interesting....has beaches and attractions kind of like their version of an amusement park. Worth checking out. The transporation in Singapore is amazing and they have a light rail and you can pretty much walk or take the light rail anywhere.

I highly recommend getting clothes made. They have beautiful silk and fabrics and the tailors are phenominal.

I haven't been to Malaysia. When are you going?

I am FB friends with her. She is in Germany now. I can ask her though if she once lived there as well.
