5th anniversary gift ideas?

Dh and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary on June 16th. I am trying to plan ahead and decide what to get. Dh loves tools so I usually get him tools, but i was trying to think of something clever/different. I read that the fifth anniversary is traditionally wooden gifts. Any thoughts? Something engraved or carved maybe? Would it be strange to just buy him lumber to build something?... I'm kinda thinking that is strange although it would be practical.

Do you and your Dh exchange anniversary gifts? If so, what did you get him for your 5th anniversary? We are planning on IVF 5 in July OOP and I'm not working now, so cost is a factor as well.

Would he put together a model airplane? I bought MH a kit, the motor and all of the necessary supplies for Christmas. It'd fit the wood theme and it's a fun guy project.

We were going to do Maui for our 5th too (we went their on our honeymoon) but we also assumed we'd have children old enough to leave with their grandparents. Most likely we're looking at our 10th anniversary for a return trip.

My husband is awesome at getting gifts that correspond to the traditional year gifts. I suck at it.

We're celebrating our 5th year as well this summer. We are planning a little getaway... probably somewhere within driving distance. We usually don't do gifts, but instead go out to eat somewhere really nice. Hope you can find something fun for your anni!

We paid for IVF 3 for our 5th anniversary. :<

You could get him the deck chairs we talked about, not sure they are wood though. Way practical. I do like the airplane idea.

How about more wood for you to stain?! Surprise Stick out tongue Wink

We exchange normally but we already bought our gifts. I got my ring upgrade and he got his bike upgrade. We're going on a 9 day road trip too so that's good enough.

I'll keep thinking of (non-smarta$$) ideas for you!

Ok, we haven't done traditional gifts ever. We celebrated our 5th last year. I actually got him wood but not on purpose. It was like a man jewelry box, to keep his watches, cuff links, his cross and some jewelry he inherited from his grampa. I had our last initial engraved on top. I figured if we have a son he could pass it down. Plus I was sick of his stuff in my box

This year he turns 30, his bday is right before our anni and we are taking a road trip but I still need to think of a good gift...

We always say we wont exchange gifts and we always end up getting each other a little something.

I think for our 5th anniversary I got DH a telescope.

I dont think lumber is a bad idea -- I'd get that for my DH -- and I feel my mom would have gotten that for my dad.

Stain... God no. Of course, if it were a flat piece of furniture, that wouldn't be as bad. It's the spindles and nooks that are the pain.
