Ok girls here me out.
My BFF for over 20 years had her first baby today. We live 4 hours away and I want to go for the weekend. I'm 38 weeks 1 day and will be 38.5 by the weekend. I haven't had any contractions (that I know of), I feel pretty great for 38 weeks, and I didn't go into labor with DS until 40 weeks. I won't be able to see her or the baby until DS#2 is a little older maybe 6-8 weeks.
So based on the information above, should I visit or not? We will be traveling to a big city so I'm not worried about delivering at a hospital there.
TIA!

Since your insurance will cover you I would go as long as you're feeling great and your doctor agrees. This is assuming you didn't have a super speedy delivery with your first. I would just the drive slow with lots of bathroom breaks.

I'll ask, what does your BFF want? Is she the "BRING ON THE VISITORS!" kind of mom? And were you hoping to do stuff to help her out, like clean/cook/etc? I just wouldn't want you to over-do it!
One of my BFFs lives 3 hours away, and we were just discussing her visit. I actually suggested she wait until baby is a couple weeks old to come visit me. That way I'll have healed physically, I'll (hopefully) be less fearful of leaving the house with the baby, AND my husband will be back at work. So she'll be able to help me at the house if I need it while he's working, and I said hopefully we can actually go out for coffee or lunch! As a FTM, I have no idea how I'll handle the new baby stuff, but I have a feeling I'd enjoy her company more if she came later. And I told her she'll be getting picture texts of the baby, and developmental-wise she won't miss much between a few days & a few weeks! Sleep, eat, poop, right?
Because I'm pregnant too, it is either now or 2 months from now. She is a bring the guests. She is receiving all our local friends at the hospital tonight and was really sad that I could not be there for her delivery.
Thanks for the insight girls.
