Baby wearers: My baby does not like to be worn-help!

My 2 week old seems to not like to be worn. She does ok for a little while in the Ergo, especially when my husband wears it rather than me. However, if I use my Moby wrap she fusses and claws at me and won't settle down. I wonder if I'm wearing it wrong or if I need a ring sling? Thoughts?

I kind of have to agree with this.  I mean, if your baby screamed and clawed when you put her in a bouncer, you wouldn't put her in a bouncer, right? Just because babywearing is AP doesn't mean it's right for your particular baby.  She might come to like it when she's older too.

  • The fact that she is more fussy with you makes me think it has to do with eating (if you are breast feeding). A baby that young may want to eat very often and get frustrated to be so close to the source. Try wearing right after you finishing nursing.
  • I know this sounds weird, but you might not be wearing her tight enough.  I would give it one more try and make the Moby as tight as you can get it.  This is- by the way- a suggestion I was given by someone on here just a couple of months ago.

I have to say though, that both Carly and I prefer the ring sling to other carriers.

DD hated all carriers....  I just had to hold her in my arms all the time.. it makes for strong arms!
  • DS likes the Moby okay, hates the sling, and tolerates the Boba. He almost always cries going into any carrier, he really likes his space (total opposite of DD) but if I shush and start walking right away he tends to quiet down. I wouldn't give up entirely, she may like it as she gets older or a different carrier maybe. Unfortunately for DS I need hands to wrangle DD when we're out and about so I don't have much choice.

  • Are you walking around/doing stuff after you put her in? Many babies will get grumpy if you wrap them then sit down.

  • I agree with PP about the particular carrier. DD doesn't really like to be worn in the K'Tan, but she loves the Mei Tei. Maybe try a different style.

Mine hated it for the first few weeks. It was only last week I was finally able to get him in without him crying. Even still, he has to be in the right mood.

This was definitely the case for us. For the first two months or so DD hated being worn by me, but loved being worn by anyone else. Once she started spacing out feedings she started liking it when I wore her around.

  • Are you leaving her feet out? DS hated having his feet tucked in fetal position.  Even when he was that little.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I plan to try it right after I'm done feeding her today and going for a walk outside. I'll also try it tighter. I'll let you know how it goes!
