I'll be having a scheduled csection due to large and breech baby. I'm 36 weeks now and trying to read up as much as possible about the procedure and recovery.
How soon were you able to eat, and did you still need to watch your carbs in the hospital? Did they monitor your blood sugar? Did they do anything different for you in the hospital because of your GD?
Thanks!

Re: Csection and GD
With my last doc they didn't care a thing about my sugar after. I had to be on a liquid diet that first 24 hrs due to the CS but after that it was whatever I wanted to eat (SO NICE!).
My current doc does want to check my sugar levels after I have the baby but i'm not sure if she wants it done in the hospital or when I come for my check up.
I don't remember if they even checked my blood sugar once after I had DS. They checked his regularly for maybe the first 24 hours and it was fine.
BTW I had both my c/s babies in the early morning (between midnight and 2) and was able to eat solid foods starting with breakfast the next day, so 6-8 hours later. This was at two different hospitals. I was given soft food for my first meal after DS, but I don't think that had anything to do with GD. So the liquid diet after a c/s thing certainly isn't standard everywhere.
I didn't hear another thing about it after the c/s. My c/s with DS was at 11:30am and I was able to eat solids the next morning for breakfast, along with a big delicious glass of grape juice. My c/s with DD was at 7:30am and I had DH go get me a sub for dinner.
My OB did check my fasting blood sugar at my 3 week post-c/s check up and it was fine.
(read it. you know you want to.)
