I'm an ultrasound tech and currently work at a hospital where I do everything. OB, abdomen, vascular, pediatrics, etc. I am on call 3 nights a week which really sucks, plus holidays and all that stuff. I'vebeen there for 5 years and ready for a change.
I applied for a job at a Women's Hospital. It will be a 40 min commute (I currently do 30 so not a big change) but this will be NO call, NO holidays! AND I would mainly just be doing OB. This is seriously the ideal job for me and what I've been waiting for. Oh plus a $5/hr raise. I'm sooo soo nervous. Tummy feeling upset and all. They said for me to expect to be there 3 hours tomorrow so I can talk, tour and they will have me scan some patients.
As far as the scanning goes I guess it's either I've got it or I don't. But now I'm trying to prep myself so I can wow them in the Q&A part
What are the typical questions?
Like seriously .. what is my biggest weakness?? Geez.
Re: Interview tomorrow ... sooo nervous! tips? [u/s -hospital]
It's with the ultrasound supervisor so maybe it won't be "dumb questions"! At least I hope not!!
Thanks for the well wishes girls
No tips and Good Luck!
But out of curiousity how are the hours and pay as an u/s tech? I'm thinking about going back to school to be an u/s tech since the BA in Journalism I recieved 4 years ago hasn't landed me a job in anything other then retail. And I just DO NOT want to spend my life in retail! Not that I have anything against it...its just not me.
Depending on whether you are at a hospital that has call or not is where the hours will come into play. Right now I work 7:30-4 M-F and on call 3 nights a week after midnight to come in for emergencys. Pay is good, average is something like $33/hr I read online depending on state and location. I really do LOVE my job.
There are so many hospitals and OBs in Pittsburgh...if I do go to school for U/S I'm sure I won't have trouble finding somewhere to work after I complete school. I think its a job I'd enjoy. It will either be U/S or Nursing at this point. Healthcare is really the major employer in Pittsburgh.
Interview went well I think!! I was sooo nervous beforehand .. popping pepto and waking up at all hours of the night. Yeah .. I'm weird. But the supervisor ended up being younger (in her 30s I think) and she was pretty laid back so it made me comfortable. She did say that she still had 5 other people to interview .. and I was the first one so unfortunately I don't know when I will know something
Thanks for all the well wishes, you ladies are great
