Oh dear. Sorry about that. I let her nap when she wants and she's gotten into a somewhat predictable schedule. Maybe try doing a nap routine like you do for bed? That might help him know it's time to snooze.
It helps us to try and get DD up around the same time each day. I'm not worried about particular nap times yet, although it would be nice, but I've noticed that she's pretty predictable about how long she can stay awake between naps. She'll start to get fussy usually about 1 hour and 45 minutes after the last time she woke up. She's a cat napper still, so it's usually 4 and sometimes even 5 mini naps of 30-45 minutes at a time. If it's not better by 5 or 6 months I'll get into a more formal nap routine/schedule with her. I'm also kind of hoping she'll get there on her own instead of me going crazy trying to get her there.
I've got two so I started getting DD into a nap schedule as soon as I started to see a pattern.
Right now my older one naps everyday around 12:30 so I try to get my younger one down at 12:00 right after lunch. She wakes up for the day around 9 so she is usually ready for a nap around then. She takes another nap around 5 which is great because we get to eat supper with both hands.
To get this sechdule to work I start signalling nap time by having quiet activities right before lunch then after lunch the littlest one get swaddled and the lights get turned down and I nurse her while big sister watches the wonder pets or reads a book with me.
I agree with pp I would try to have a predictable routine everyday around the time you want LO to take a nap.
I wish I knew. DS goes to daycare and sometimes he naps there and sometimes not. Before he went to daycare, his sleepy times were a lot more predictable. When he's not at daycare, he only wants to nap at home in my arms usually. Yesterday he took a few very short cat naps and that was it. 15 minutes tops. He is sick, too so I thought maybe he would sleep better last night. He squirmed and fussed most of the night. I barely got any sleep. I'm so exhausted.
DD usually takes two naps, about an hour in the morning and 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon. She usually lets us know when she's ready. As soon as she starts to get fussy and rubs her eyes we take her up to her crib and turn the lights low.
I work full time, but his caregivers tell me he wont take a nap no matter what they do. He usually naps when I have him on the weekend.. so I'll have to talk to them about a better routine.
