Best socks for a newborn? And where to find them?

My cousin told me to make sure I get lots of newborn socks because most socks are size 0-6 months and they're HUGE on a newborn.

Does anyone have any specific brand or type they can recommend, and where do you normally buy them?

  • I found that gap's "cozy socks" worked the best.

  • My DS didn't last very long in the newborn socks, so you may not need lots of them.  I found the thicker ones were terrible, they would slip off so easily.  The only brand that stayed on his feet were the Carters.

  • Trumpette were the only socks that worked for DD.

I didn't have her in too many newborn socks because we mainly used those sleepers with the feet attached 24/7.

This. Trumpette are my favorite and the only socks that stay put.

  • Skip socks and get these:

The gap socks seemed to work the best, but even those didn't work great.  These did.  I got two pairs, which is fine (they don't walk, so they don't get dirty, and they generally can't spit up on their feet).

I was hard to find newborn socks but 0-6 will be fine, those were hard to find too.  I really like the fold over socks.  I got some at WalMart.

ETA:  Oh and my DD has small feet so she's still wearing some of her 0-6 socks at 9 months!

  • Robeez socks.  They're called kickproof because they have an extra elastic around the ankle.  That being said, they're tricky to find at a good price...

  • DD has skinny little legs and honestly nothing will stay on.  Even the robeez and trumpettes fall off.  I try to keep her in the sleepers with feet so its not an issue.

  • Gap socks -0-3 mos- the ones that fold over once and are usually patterned

    Robeez

Carter's worked okay but they didn't hold up as well to the wash

  • Socks wouldn't stay on DD. We kept her in footed sleepers or footed pants all the time instead.  I really like Circo brand socks (Target) for size 0-6 and bigger though, as well as Gap socks.

  • We kept DS in footed sleepers for the first few months.  DS now wears Trumpette and Circo (Target) socks. We've had luck with Carter's in the past.

  • it really is all about fit. all the ones everyone swore by (trumpette, gap, old navy, carters) fell right off my LO. The ones that ended up working best on her tiny feet were the Faded Glory socks from walmart! Thank goodness some random person went off registry and bought us a package :)

All of this. Trumpette's worked the best, but I mostly found baby socks to be pointless. She managed to kick off basically everything (even when she had socks on under her footed sleepers). She lived in footed sleepers the first 3-4 months.
