Two Under 2

Recommend your baby carrier for a 1 year old

Now that DD has outgrown the regular carrier, I've been pushing her in the stroller while DS walks, or using the double stroller. I saw someone at the zoo this weekend that had her 2 year old in the Ergo doing the back carry, and I thought this seemed like a great way to have your hands free.

Is it worth it to buy a carrier for a toddler? Share your experiences, please.

Thanks!

I love my Ergo and used to wear DD1 on my back until I was too uncomfortable to do so when pregnant with DD2 (DD1 was around 16 months when I stopped).  Now I use it for DD2 but could totally use it for DD1 if I had to.

  • I'm still wearing my 16 month old in an ergo. I love it!

I'd look around to consignment stores for one used.

  • Its definitely been worth it for me. I have a Kinderpack & a couple of wraps to carry him. There are plenty of other brands (Kanga, Bamberoo, Dream Carrier, Boba, etc) besides the Ergo. All of them also have specfic toddler sizes, except Boba. The Ergo is uncomfortable for me, but the other ones make him feel totally weightless. I use them often now & will definitely use the carriers more when #2 comes.

My almost 25 month old still rides in my Ergo and it is SO comfortable! I believe they go up to 45 lbs (she is only 30).

I agree with pp's, I'd try an Ergo.  My DD loved it until about 12 months when she refused to get in it but I see a lot of toddlers being carried around in one.

  • We love our Ergo. We got it when #1 was about 6 months and loved it until he learned to walk. We used it less often then because he just didn't want to be carried. Lately he's been requesting it again. It's still super comfortable but we don't use it often with him because of the little one needing to be carried. I have actually worn them both though, Moby in front and Ergo in back. I feel like the Ergo would be comfortable for a long time still.

  • I still wear DD regularly (18m), and DS (3y) wants to "ride" every so often. When we travel through the airport, both kids go in an Ergo. I like it best for overall comfort and ease of use. My Mei Tai is comfy (not quite as much as the Ergo), but is "prettier" and less "business" looking when I'm dressed up and want/need to wear baby.

My 21 month old loves the Ergo! She will go and grab it to ask to go in it. It's very comfortable IMO and well worth the money. My 7 month loves it too. He's just started riding on my back and that's makes life so easy now.
