would you let DH go?

My DH is the assistant coach of a high school soccer team (he has been the head coach the last 4 years but stepped down this season and is making this his last season)...the team has advanced to the 4th round of state playoffs...they've never made it past this round.  The game is tomorrow night 4 hours away.  Would you let DH go?  He's willing to stay home but I know he really wants to go and be there to help.

Re: would you let DH go?

  • As long as I felt ok then yes. He may want to drive himself (instead of the team bus) just in case he needs to leave. But only if you are comfortable with it.

    Congrats to his team!

  • Yes, as long as he takes his own car and doesn't go on the bus with the team so he can leave if he needs too. I'd also make sure I had the cell phone numbers of the other coaches in case I couldn't get in touch with him via his cell.

  • Yep, I would. Four hours away is a decent distance, but if you're only 37 weeks right now I wouldn't worry about LOs arrival being imminent (also assuming you're a FTM with no reason to believe you'll go early).

This is my 3rd...my 2nd DD came at 37w1d...1st came at 39w....so arrival is kind of imminent....but one never knows.

I would take this into consideration and how quickly your labors went.  If you have longer labors then 4 hours would prob be enough time to get back.  But like PP said, make sure he drives.

  • I would. Although you're full term at 37 weeks, it's still unlikely that you will go into labor this early unless the doctors gave you reason to think that you might. It's just 1 day, and even though 4 hours is somewhat far, most labors really aren't that short (so worst case scenario he should be able to make it back in time).

ETA - just saw your responses to PPs. I think I would still let him go - it's just a short 1 day trip, and he really should be able to make it back in time even if you do go into labor.

  • If I felt ok, I'd let him go if he drove seperately and kept his cell phone on him at all times in case you need him, with the agreement that if you call he comes home no questions asked.

  • Let him drive himself there, that way if you need him to come back, he can get back.  Also have someone on standby for you.
  • Yup, if I felt good about it and wasn't expecting to go into labor any time soon I'd have no problem with it. Even if you went into labor chances are he'd be back in time. Maybe have a back up pal to be there for you just in case something crazy happens?
  • My DH has his yearly fishing day on Saturday and I will be 38 weeks tomorrow. He will be about 3 hours away on the lake.

We have decided that he can go if: I feel good Saturday morning; We have a back-up plan if I need to go to the hospital, IE our next door neighbor is on stand-by; He is driving seperate so he can take off from there if need be; I have EVERY other person's cell phone number if I can't get ahold of him.

I hated to tell him no and we just stare at each other all day Saturday HA! Good luck!

  • Yes, I definitely would and agree with PPs to make sure that he keeps his cell right with him and has his own transportation.

  • I would but like PP's I would make him drive seperate and have the cell phone numbers of other coaches there and a backup just in case.
  • Yes I would if he drives could you go with him maybe. Or have a friend stay with you while he is gone just in case

  • absolutely. Its unlikely you will go into labor at 37 weeks, and if you did it would be a long process. Tell him to check his phone often and have a good time.

Right. Sorry, I missed that in your siggy.

I think I would still let him go, but as everyone else has said, make sure he drives himself there. :)

  • Yes, my DH is planning a 2-night trip out of town when I am 37w1d.  Which may have to be postponed if I end up having an external version that week...but until I found out LO was breech, I had no problem with him going.
