While I was in the hospital for the c-section, my dog, Boddinton, was at my inlaw's house. He visits their house often but rarely does he stay overnight so he wasn't too happy about that. We brought our daughter home on Saturday and my inlaws brought the dog home on Sunday so we'd have a day to get somewhat settled before doing the intro.
The dog was super amped up, hyper and overly excited both about being home and the strange small human now residing in the house but he is slowly adjusting. Sadly, he started giving me the cold puppy shoulder bc I spend so much time with the baby BFing and bonding. (He is normally very affectionate and mushy, especially with me but he even ate the only shoes that still fit my swollen feet [he's not normally a big chewer on inappropriate items] so I know he's not happy with me.)
Well, last night things changed. When hubby got up to change the baby's diaper, the dog moved from the foot of the bed up to my side. He then nudged his doggy nose under my arm to get my arm around him and cuddled up super close to my side. Yay! My mushy cuddle-pup is back!
How are your furry family members adapting?

Re: dog is becoming his mushy self again
The night before I went into labor, my dog was going crazy. Every move I made, every sound, everything she was jumping up on the bed or pacing back and forth. She totally knew something was going to happen.
Now, since we've been home with LO - she's all over her like white on rice! She could be downstairs and hear LO cry upstairs and this dog is upstairs faster than you can say her name (LUCY). Whenever someone is holding her, even if it's me, she stands there and watches.
It's amazing how dogs just know.
Such cute stories!
No outside baby for me yet, but when we first started doing the nursery, and getting gifts & toys, our dog would try to take any toy or stuffed animal as his own. We had to keep the door shut, and keep the baby stuff out of reach. Slowly, he has come to understand the things in that room are not for him. Now we leave the door open, and there are tons of things within his reach, but he doesn't take them. He still goes in and sniffs around sometimes though.
I'm not really too concerned with how he'll react to a baby, as he's been around babies. He could really care less. But I am concerned/curious to see how he will react to a complete change in routine. I mean, I'll go from working 40+ hour weeks, to being home all the time with a baby that will cry & need feeding! It will be very different for him!
