4 year old sleep schedule?

If you have a 4 year old or almost 4 year old, what time are they going to bed and what time are they getting up?  Naps?  I'm trying to figure out more of a schedule for DD1 and sending her to bed at 7:30 and having her stay awake until 10:30 is not working.

Re: 4 year old sleep schedule?

  • My DS goes to bed at 7:30 or 8 (lately it's been 8 more often than not) and is up at 6:30 or 7 (we get him up at 6:45 for school, but he's almost always up by 7 regardless). He doesn't nap any longer unless he is sick or otherwise very tired out for some reason, and even then it's not in his bed (usually on the floor in the family room).

  • My 4 yr old goes to sleep around 7:30 and we wake him up at 7am for school. He goes to school mon, tues, wed. I don't nap him on school days. He does nap on non school days for about 3 hours and sleeps around 9:30 and wakes by himself around 8am.

  • My daughter goes to bed at 9-930 and gets up at 6 most days for school. Since she's in PreK, she takes naps from 12-2. On weekends the latest she'll sleep in is 7-715. She still normally wakes up at 6-615. (As soon as the sun rises she's awake.) Weekends, sometimes she'll take naps sometimes not.

  • M-F - wake at 7ish - bed @ 8, nap from 1-3 @ daycare

Weekends - she wakes a little later - 7:30/7:45 and will only take a nap if we're in the car.  If she doesn't take a nap, I try to do bedtime closer to 7.

  • Wow, I'm surprised so many of your kids still take naps. There is no way most days I can even get DS to rest, let alone nap. I'm envious!

My 4 year old (birthday was in March), goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30 and wakes up during the week at 6:15 and on the weekends, wakes up closer to 7:15 and will sometimes be awake until around 8 or so.  Naps are about 30-60 mins if she naps at all (if no naps, she has quiet time).  At school, quiet time is 2 hours but they wake her after about 30-45 mins or she will not go to sleep at night.  At home, we typically have quiet time in her room for an hour and she will play/sleep for what she feels she needs.  Every so often, I will have her in her room for 1.5 to 2 hours if I can tell she is really having a hard morning and the down time/sleep does her wonders.

  • Mine goes to bed faithfully between 8-9 every night. He doesn't like going to bed when it is still light out so summer time we let him stay up til almost 9. He takes naps at pre-school but not for us at home.

  • My DS goes to bed between 8 & 9 and sleeps to about 7-7:30. He does not take a nap everyday, but does have an one hour "rest" period that he has to lay in his bed and not play, most of the time he falls alseep and we only let him sleep for about an hour or else we'll never get him in bed at night.

DS sleeps 7:30 to 7:30. No nap. He rests and watches a movie in my bed or on the couch while DD naps.

My 4 year old doesn't nap during the week and very rarely on the weekends, unless its falling asleep in the car when we are on the move.  She goes to bed between 7 and 8, and wakes up around 6 am.
  • DD turns 4 in July. She goes to bed at 9pm  - takes a 2-3 hour nap - gets up during the week at 6:30am. On weekends she may stay up a little later and sleeps in maybe til 7:30 or 8am.

  • It sounds like your DD is done with napping.  Try skipping the nap and see what happens.  DS hasn't taken a nap since the beginning of November, when he was still at his daycare.  At home, he hasn't napped much since around 3 or 3 1/2.  It was just too difficult to get him to go down for a nap, so it wasn't worth it.  He sleeps from around 9 until anywhere between 7:15-9.  Usually wakes around 8/8:30.  I'm always trying to get him to go to bed earlier, but it's been tough to do with having a baby and juggling their schedules.
