2nd cs is scheduled for june 8th at 6am. How long before you could get up and walk around. How long before they took out the catheter? DD was born in the pm so i had to sleep with it, thats after a really bad blanket/catheter pull from a nurse and i was sooooo uncomfortable the whole night, as it was not in very comfortablly due to the tug. thanks
Re: Catheter&walking around
BFP #2 March 2011, Baby Girl born November 2011!!!
My catheter was in for 24 hours.
I had my c/s at 9:00 in the morning and kept my catheter in until the next morning. I was up walking around as soon as they let me (maybe 8 hours after?). I even loaded it up and took my pee bag with me when I had to go up a floor to the special care nursery because my LO had to spend the night up there. FWIW, I totally enjoyed having the catheter. It was so nice to be able to drink as much as I wanted (I was crazy thirsty) and not have to worry about going to the bathroom!
However, I did have a 20 hour morphine patch put in through my spinal, so I don't know if that helped make it less uncomfortable or not. Also, it was a planned c/s, so I didn't labor at all. I didn't feel it until they took it out, and it was only a slight tug.
My planned c/s was at 8am and I had the cath taken out around 6-7pm. It was before the nurses changed shifts at 7pm. Interesting that a lot of yall were told to walk with it. With both of my boys, I wasn't allowed to walk until they took the cath out. Then I just had an IV and pain pump. They took the IV out a short time later and my pain pump came out at the 24 hr mark.
DS2 as born in the AM. I got up that evening and walked and my cath was taken out the next morning. they could have taken it out that night, but gave me the option of keeping it in. The nurse felt it was especially cruel to take it out in the PM and then ask me to go to the bathroom alone all night long (and I was passing a lot of fluid from the IV).
With DD, she was born in the AM and they took it out and had me up and walking that PM. DS1 was born in the PM and I was up and walking with catheter out the next AM.
I had mine in a little over 24 hours as well as IV and leg compression things. I had clotting comlpications though and was not allowed any activity until the next morning.
June 8th is my bday Great day to have a baby!
Great day to have a baby!
This, all of it. Except I was up and moving about 4 hours after my c/s. I also loved having it in overnight b/c I was drinking water like crazy and didn't have to leave the bed all night!
Same, and in fact, it was nice to hold on to the pole where the IV and cath bag hung!
