Postpartum sexy time

Hi ladies - when did you start having (enjoyable, non-painful) sex postpartum? I know I will prob. be cleared at 6 weeks but I am wondering if I will be physically ready then or if there is still pain in the uterus/incision site. Right now at 3 weeks I have some belly pain, its mostly above my incision site, and is tender. Not terrible, I am not on pain meds anymore. Just wondering if stuff like that gets in the way or if by 6 weeks, it's smooth sailing.

My incision felt fine at six weeks. However, sex still really hurts. If you are breastfeeding, be prepared for vaginal dryness. Lube helps for some, but for me, it doesn't.

  • My incision was not the problem. I had pretty painful sex until about 6 months PP and it wasn't fun until 8 months PP. It has to do with hormones and dryness, especially if you are BFing. I didn't even find relief with using lube. It sucked.

  • By 6 weeks I felt fine, and had no issues.

  • With my 1st we waited until 13 wks (yes, I know) ONLY because I was physically exhausted from taking care of a new baby and sex was the LAST thing on my mind. We had no issues.

Now w/ my 2nd we haven't even thought about sex. I am taking care of a 2 1/2 yr old and a 10 wk old. Im a little tired to be thinking about sex. Thankfully my dh is fine w/ that.

this.  and incisions tend ti be sore if someone puts direct pressure on it.

  • Sex is still pretty painful for me, but I think it's all because I also had an episiotomy.  None of my discomfort seems to be from the c/s.

  • Keep in mind that every person is completely different.  At 2 weeks, I was up and ready to go go go with no problems...could've been back in my regular clothes but chose to wear comfy clothes because I was a little tender still!  I had to be made to not lift things and do too much.  There were a couple of times where I'd been on the go all day that I was a little sore, but for the most part I had no issues and was off pain meds the first week.  I re-arranged my living room at like 5 or 6 weeks.  So, again, each person is quite different!  I was cleared at 6 weeks, we didn't do anything 'til 7 weeks and there were no issues, but we didn't get wild and crazy either.  My LO is 13 weeks, and yes the healing process is still happening as it does take time for the nerves to heal and what not...I've been pretty numb, to touch the area of the incision, but I can tell when nerves are starting to heal because I get really itchy, it's weird.  So, yes take advise from others, but know that how your body reacts will not be the same as others!

  • I started having sex around 4 weeks postpartum.  The midwife who did my 2 week checkup said it was okay to start having sex again when I felt like trying.

Yep, my belly was tender in the area between the incision and my belly button -- but the sex didn't "hurt".  I'm almost 12 weeks out now, I still get occasional belly tenderness if I overdo it with exercise, etc., but the sex is fantastic again.

I did not have enjoyable, non-painful sex until 9 months pp. But it had nothing to do with the incision; that was fine/easy to work around by 6w pp. I was BFing and things were very dry and very tight in the whole vag region. Not fun.

Hope things go better for you.

We started at 4 weeks and I had no pain or anything whatsoever. It was like I never had a baby. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I had a scheduled c-section so I never labored at all. Like a PP said, my recovery was a breeze and I could've done anything by 2 weeks but I waited until my checkup to be sure.

All this.  And it's just uninteresting now.  Haven't had fun sex since like last year this time. A lot more changes than just having a new incision.

  • We started having sex at 3 weeks pp and it was fine, fun even.  I know this is not the norm and as pp have said use lube.
