Re: Jodie

  • Hijacking post here... I read NCSS a couple weeks ago. DD was sleeping through the night before I was even done with the 10 days of logging after I started using the book's suggestions, and shortly after that she even started going to sleep by herself when I would lay her down awake! I'm absolutely thrilled!! I think the thing that helped the most was breaking her sucking/sleep association since I'd been nursing her to sleep all this time. Good luck if you do try it!!

  • I was wondering if you started yet. It had been going well for us, but then we had a setback when DH went out of town for a week and Saoirse was waking up 6-8 times every night. I felt like I was hit by a truck! No sleep and being tired from being 8 months pregnant was horrible. It's getting better now that he's back, but she still hasn't gone back to STTN.

Lately I think she has trouble sleeping because she is having gas pains at night. She will fuss and move around trying to get comfortable, but she just can't get herself back to sleep. After me holding her until she goes back to sleep she still has trouble going back into her crib. I finally cut out all dairy, fruits, and vegetables from her diet yesterday, only giving her toast, cereal, cheerios, and plain pasta. She slept so much better after that. So I gave her cereal with a bit of milk on it this morning and she immediately became gassy and got a rash on her cheek and 2 little rashy spots on her belly. So now I think she may have an issue with dairy that's keeping her up at night.

Anyway, I think the NCSS has helped a lot in terms of setting a bedtime routine, sleeping with a lovey (her burp cloth), and going to bed earlier than usual. Now we just have to work on the soothing herself to sleep rather than me holding her. That next step is going to be a challenge. I may turn her bedtime routine over to DH because I think she just wants me to hold her. I'll let you know how it goes.
