Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

If you had a D&C

How long did you take off work? I'm debating whether to schedule one or see what happens naturally and am worried because I'm a teacher and this is such a crazy time of year. I have had one before, about 4 years ago, and think I was only out for 2 days but I can't remember.

Re: If you had a D&C

  • I had to stay an extra night in the hospital after a D&E because they punctured my uterus accidentally. Other than that, I could have gone back to work the next day, physically speaking (I work in IT, no physical exertion needed). But I ended up taking a whole week off because emotionally I wasn't ready to deal. Still not sure I am but I can't stay away forever. :-/

With both my D&Cs I was out the day of the surgery, worked from home the next day and returned to work on the third day, but since you are a teacher which means you are probably on your feet a lot, you may need more time that that. Is it possible for you to schedule a D&C on a Thursday or a Friday so you have the weekend (and maybe Monday) to recover?

On Tuesday, I did have a slight incident due to the anesthesia, I can't remember the whole thing, I think I just got really confused or something.

  • 1 week for now. I had a D&C Saturday, physically I'm starting to feel better. I have times where emotionally I'm a wreck and could not be at work. I would take a few ads to a week off from work. My doctors office said they'd write me a note for as long as I need as everyone deals differently.

    Sorry for your loss, T&P

I am still having bleeding, especially when I over do it. I'm not sure how physically demanding your job is but that's something else to take into consideration too.

Oops you said your a teacher which I assume your on your feet a lot, you may really consider taking at least a week off and see how your doing, and know that you may need a bit longer

  • I had my D&C on a Wed. but since I actually started miscarring the Friday afternoon before I took the whole week off...My Dr. was concerned with the amount of blood I was losing and it was soooo heavy I didn't think I could work the two days before my surgery...He wanted me to rest the day after which was thursday and I just didn't think I needed to go back to work for one day that week so Friday I stayed home and rested as well...Physically I was ok by thursday but emotionally I did not want to deal with all the questions and I  sorry's that I knew would come...

My monday back at work was not as bad as I thought I would be...I was done bleeding by thursday at lunch.

  • I had my D&C a week ago today and took all of this week off of work. I am an assistant at a day care so there's lots of lifting on to diaper tables, etc. My cramps haven't been severe but definitely noticeable, would have been a lot worse if I wasn't able to lay around. Bleeding hasn't been bad, I only one big clot last night so I'm hoping that's what was causing the cramps.

Please remember to be patient with both you and your husband and my thoughts are with you <3

  • Sorry, this might be a little late... I had a D and C after a MC about a year ago on a Friday AM, and I took the weekend to recover and went back to work monday.  however, I had very little bleeding on Saturday and Sunday, but for some reason my body didnt start bleeding until Monday.  I had about 2 days of pretty bad clots, which if you can NOT be at work for that then great.  Sorry, I know its gross, but I could feel them passing and had to change my pad constantly, which was really hard seeing as though most of my days are spent in meetings, presentations, etc.  Depending on your work, it would have been a lot easier (physically and mentally) to be in the comforts of my home...
