At what age do kids appreciate a toy kitchen the most?

I know it will be different for everyone, just wanted to get an idea.  My stepdaughter liked playing with kitchens at a friend's house so I bought her a big nice one and she doesn't care for it.  It's been sitting in the garage for 6 months and I'm wondering if I should sell it or if she will eventually like it more.  She's 2.5.

  • At 2.5 my daughter loved her kitchen and still does. She's going on 5. I think it really depends on the kid. She sees me in the kitchen 2-4 times a day so she likes copying me if I dont let her "help" me while I cook. I say if by 3 she's not into imaginative play...donate or yard sale.

  • That's the thing, she is into imaginative play, just not with the kitchen.  And she LOVES to help me cook.  I cook every day and she helps me with everything...mixing and pouring things, taking out plastic plates, making cups of tea, she loves it.  So maybe she just doesn't like the kitchen?
  • She must prefer the real thing over pretend. Go ahead and sell it. You said it's been the garage for like 6 months....go ahead and get rid of it. At least you tried lol

  • at 2.5 DD loved her kitchen...she's now 4 and still does;  DS is just 2 and he's been playing in it for at least a year.

  • We got our daughter her first kitchen set for Christmas when she was 3 years old. She'd just turned three that October and since we didn't get her one for her birthday, we figured Christmas would be the perfect time.  She loved it.  There was one in her preschool class and it was the first thing she was attracted to on her first day; after seeing how much she loved it, buying her one was a no-brainer.  I think 2 1/2 would be the perfect age to get one!  Hope she loves it!

  • We got DD hers for her 2nd birthday, but she had started showing an interest in them around 20 months or so. I think the peak of her interest was between ages 2-3.5. She still plays with her kitchen occasionally now, but it is not the huge thrill it once was nor does she arrive at kids' houses anymore and immediately ask if they have a toy kitchen (as she used to do). She's more interested in playing dress-up these days.

  • We just picked up a kitchen about 2 months ago because DD (almost 2) loves the kitchen at daycare and DS (almost 6) plays with one at my mom's house. They both love having one at home and spend a lot of time playing and cooking together.

  • DD loved it around age 2-3, the boys didn't like it much at all.

My 2.5 yo loves her kitchen and I'm thinking about getting her a bigger one from Santa since we are moving and will have more room. She has a small one now.
