50 Shades of Grey...

Has anyone read this? I think I am a little behind the bandwagon as I just read it this weekend... whoa it is not what I expected! I think I should have looked into it more before I spontaneously bought it at the airport book store! I must admit, I was completely engrossed by it as I read, but I was hoping no one was looking over my shoulder too see what was written on the pages!

Was anyone else caught off guard by this book, or am I just an idiot for not reading the genre first? Stick out tongue

Well,... It HAS been on the news for a few weeks (maybe even months!) now, and I'm pretty sure every talk show has talked about it once or twice, so...

Lol. I wouldnt call you an idiot, but your a little late to the game, that's all Wink

I have not read it, but all the talk has spiked my curiosity a bit. I believe its a trilogy... So you've got 2 more books to catch up on!

I read it.  Bought all 3 books the day they came out.  I gotta say, I was caught off guard as well.  It was much more dark and explicit than I thought it would be...  I learned it was not my kind of book, but I still read all 3.  HAHA

Let me just clarify by saying I am a huge reader. Seriously, last year 175ish books, this year I am on track to read 200 books.

I have not and probably will not read this book.  The only way I will would be if I got it for free and the Author made no money off me reading this book what-so-ever.

Here is my reasoning: This started out as Twilight FanFiction. While I love Twilight and am not ashamed to admit it. I am not a huge fan of someone taking their fan fiction, getting it published (changing the names and major details so it isn't directly Twilight anymore) and making boatloads of cash off it. A few short months ago, this story was free on the internet posted by the author.

I will get off my soapbox now. Thank you.

  • fabk - I can email you the PDFs if you want. Free!

I heard that it started out as Twi fanfic, but it's really hard to draw any parallels to the finished product. Really.

That might be okay! Thanks, I will pm you my email

  • I'm currently on the 2nd book right now and knew exactly what I was getting into. Unfortunately being pregnant has made me hate sex a little, so I think non-pregnant me would have enjoyed it more.

I heard about it from some friends and I was curious about the hype. I won't be reading the following 2 books though! My problem is that I don't watch the news... too darn depressing. Also, no talk shows are on around here when I get home from work. Oh well! I learned the hard way haha

  • I had heard it was a good read and it is the AL book club book this month, so I got the trilogy on my Kobo. I had no idea what the story line was and I admit it was kind of shocking, very steamy and a very quick read.  I read the second book even faster and am powering my way through the third.  I never read any of the twilight books and have only read the first book of the Hunger Games series (but I will read the last 2 soon).

For the lady that has only read the first one, with an ending like that how the heck could you not read the next one?  Just curious.

  • I am a big reader, and definitely wanted to see what all the hype was about.  They are easy reads, and entertaining (although the constant sex gets a little old)  but don't expect much of an actual story.  The story is good, but weak.
