Pregnant after a Loss

CPW: Your work situation

Last pregnancy I worked from an office with a 2 hr round trip commute...this time I work from home, I basically would have quit if they didn't let me.  So just curious where you ladies are all spending your days.

  • I work in a hospital laboratory 20 minutes from home.  I am not at a desk all day per se, but I work in the same place and don't travel every day.

  • I have a 2 hour round trip commute as well and I hate it. Without daycare, it wouldn't be as long but with daycare I drive 51 miles one way to work every day. It just makes for a really long day and it makes me feel guilty when we get home because I have some much dinner and dishes and laundry stuff to do that my son I think misses out on some play time with mommy but we try. I was really hoping to be a stay at home mom after this baby but I really don't think I will be able to.

I nanny in someone else's home, so that I can bring my kids along with me.  I chose the work from home, but not a desk option- but my job is sort of a special snowflake. I love it, but I really wish I could be purely a SAHM.

  • Right now I am not working. Last pregnancy I was working 60-80 hours/week at a corporate sales job, mix between desk and walking but it was very high stress.  When I got my BFP last fall we decided to move back to DH's hometown and I took a simple job that was a huge pay cut but I was bored and working for one of the worst people I have ever met, so I decided to leave that job and consider other opportunities.

For now, DH and I decided we would rather have me stay home and make sure I take care of myself instead of adding in a new stress at a job that may or may not be accommodating to my pregnancy.  Right now we are figuring out finances and seeing if it will be possible for me to stay home full time when LO arrives.

I have a 30 minute commute to a hospital where I work administration, so I'm sitting behind a desk. Our ultimate goal is for DH to get a good enough salary that I can be a SAHM.

SAHM now, but worked in an office at a desk for 10 years prior.

So, somewhere between the first two options - I work in a scientific lab. I have a desk, and I spend more than half my day there, but I also spend time at the lab bench or microscope.

Me too!! So excited to find another scientist on the boards!!

  • I voted for the office desk option, but that's only 2 days a week. I work from home one day, and I'm a SAHM for the remaining 2 weekdays.

  • I was WFH remotely until 2 weeks ago and now I'm back in the office behind a desk. That will change shortly, though, and I'll start working more days from home--probably 3 days in teh office and 2 from home with that swapping towards the end of the pregnancy. The new house we're buying is essentially a 2hr round trip commute and I'm really hoping that if I have to work after the baby comes that they'll agree to let me WFH. The only reason I am in the office now is because we moved to the city where the office was. If we'd moved anywher else I'd still be WFH. The goal is for me to SAH, but it will depend on what job DH finds (he's looking now).

My commute used to be in an office in NJ over an hour from home.
