Tubal Ligation ?

Sorry for all the questions, I've never really posted here before the previous post. So, this will be my 2nd c/s and I am pretty sure we do not want anymore little ones after this. I'm 32 and will be 33 by the time the LO gets here and we've been talking about tying the tubes. Has anyone done this? Are there any risks in doing so at 33?

Re: Tubal Ligation ?

  • I had it done but I was 39 at the time.  I knew I was done.

I was told there was a slightly increased risk of eptopic pregnancies.

The only thing I have noticed is because I am not on hormonal birth control any longer my periods are a little heavier and I feel the mood swings of PMS that I did not feel before.  Not that the tubal caused this but it is a change.

I am thrilled to not have to worry about BC.

  • I have heard it is a much simpler procedure for the men to have. Thankfully, DH's most "manly" friend had it done and now a bunch in their group are following.
  • I had a tubal during my RCS last month.

While I am only 24, I have had rough pregnancies and that made the decision simple for me.

When I scheduled it, my OB said it was another 5 minutes on the table and no big deal. I actually had a lot of scar tissue around my reproductive organs and I was in the OR for another hour after DD was born. Of course, that is my own personal experience and definitely not the norm.

6 weeks later, I am feeling great. My 1st pp period started yesterday and has been light thus far.

I'm getting mine down this time. My OB said 5 extra minutes on the table. He did say since this is my 3rd c/s that if the scar tissue is too much they will have to go up through my uterus instead of going through my c/s incsions. But either way its an easy procedure. I've also talked with friends who have had it done and all said it was like an extra 5-10 minutes. None of them had issues then or now. Oh and I'm 33 and dh is 32 but this is our 3rd. We are definitely done done done

  • I'll be 31 soon and due in August.  Can I just say I AM SO EXCITED TO GET MY TUBAL!!!!  I am so done being pregnant and just want to enjoy my kids and get my body back.  The thought of no more BC and no more worrying about getting pregant again...I get all giddy thinking about it lol.  And I am totally having a tummy tuck after this last RCS and I wouldn't do that without the finality of a tubal.

I haven't heard of any risks with the tubal.  I know my SIL had an ablation to try to end her periods along with the tubal but that actually had the opposite effect and she ended up needing a partial hysterectomy.

I had mine done after DD was born. I was also 33. We were 100% sure we were done having babies and I was already opened up so we chose to do this instead of DH getting snipped.

My periods are heavier now and I am definitly moodier before I start. I don't know if this is due to the tubal or just changes after having two babies pretty closely together.

My dr did talk about risk of ectopic pregnancy but she said it was a very tiny risk. Tubals are 99% effective.

  • I had planned to have it done during my second rcs at the age of 27 but after I went into labor 3+ weeks early we made the last minute decision not to just incase something went wrong even though the chances were slim.

My doctors were a little leery about performing one on someone so young and kept asking us if we were positive but once we discussed our reasons and they felt comfortable that we were indeed done they agreed to it. DH ended up going in for a vasectomy when DS#2 was 8 weeks old and his dr didn't have any problems doing it on a 28 year old.

  • I had thought about it, but I personally know a few people who became pregnant after theirs, and our hospital won't do it during a CS (it's a Catholic hospital), so DH is getting a vasectomy and I'll get an IUD until I'm hopefully into menopause :)

  • I had my tubes tied this time. This was our 3rd and I knew we were done. I had my RCS at a catholic hospital but because I am 38 and my doc asked for it 6 mths in advance, the hospital approved it. Since I was opened up already I saw no reason for dh to have an extra procedure later. I have not had my first pp cycle so I don't know if that will be worse or not.

Age should not really make a difference. If I had another baby and had to have a RCS, I would do it. Otherwise, dh will get snipped.
