anyone have any experience with this? Out of 30 plus follies only 14 eggs were retrieved? Doc said the rest were empty! Freaking out here, that is not normal!

We had this issue too. For IVF #1 I had about a dozen follies @ 15+ plus a few others that were 12-15 & may have caught up by the time of ER. We only got 5 eggs. I had previously done 8 IUIs & none of them worked; it may very well have looked like I had 2-3 "mature" follies but they were empty so I never even had a chance. For IVF #2 we'll be adding LH & maybe some other stuff to help mature my eggs since of the 5 we only ended up with 1 embryo. My RE also told me to add CoQ10 in case there's a quality issue. FWIW I was 32 for IVF #1 & just turned 33 last month so I'm not AMA & nothing indicates DOR either.

I had this too with IVF#4. It's heart breaking. They thought we would get 4 eggs becasue I had what looked like 4 mature follicles on u/s but they only got 1 egg. It nearly killed us to get such terrible news. However, we won the IVF lottery because I'm being induced with that one egg at 9pm tonight.

I stimmed for 21 days on 4 vials of Bravelle and 2 vials of menopur. I've never been a good responder but I'm sure my eggs were fried from the inside out becasue I had never stimmed for that long before. Could that have happened to you?

I'm sorry that you have to go through with this but I hope you get lucky too.

I wouldn't be freaking out. You got 14 eggs. What more can you ask you for! That is an excellent number. Try coming out of ER with no eggs. That is empty follicle syndrome.

I agree with Lynn. I think 14 eggs is something to be proud of. although I have never experienced empty follicle syndrome, in my best cycle I have only had two eggs retrieved. GL!

I am not upset with 14 eggs, I mean I know that it could have been much less. What worries me is that more than 50% of my follicles were empty. I went in with 35 follicles 18 of which were mature 2 days ago. That just totally scared me that we only got less than 1/2 which is when they call it empty follicle syndrome. Now im worried maybe something is wrong with my eggs? Thank you for your support, I in no way wanted to offend anyone. It was just hard news to take when you expect so much more. I guess thats the IF bandwagon though. Thoughts are prayers to you all.

pinkmickey was having similar issues, except I think she had 0/30ish. She's over on TTTC and IF as well. ((hugs)) Hopefully one of your 14 will work out!

Thank you all for your advice, Im still really confused at what has happened with this ivf, yet I cant find answers online anywhere. Of the 14 retrieved only 6 were mature and 5 fertilized.

when you start with 35 follies, and 20 some large enough to be mature, this just isnt what you expect to happen.

IF always has to show whos in charge, thats for sure.

anyone else have so many immature eggs? reasons why? I stimmed for only 8 days.

I always have 40 follies and only get 4-7 eggs....I would be psyched with 14. GL!

I had the same thing. On the first cycle I had 10 follicles but only 5 were eggs and out of 14 follicles only 7 were retrieved on the second cycle. I felt like such a failure and my RE had no real explanation as to why it happened.
