Hi ladies,
I'm mostly a lurker on this board and I love to read all of your inspiring stories. I'm a FTM who has been totally confident about giving birth naturally until now at 38 weeks when the reality of birth is so close. I guess my big belly must be broadcasting a message to people to tell me their horror stories, lol. I keep hearing ones that go "oh so and so wanted a natural birth just like you... (pause for drama) then she was begging for the epidural after a few hours!" Of course, a lot of these stories end with c-sections to boot.
I know I'm not a wimp when it comes to pain. I've been through a few surgeries and have had natural miscarriage where I did have legitimate contractions for a few hours without needing any pain meds. I guess I'm just afraid that maybe everyone is right and I have no freaking idea what I'm getting myself into. Please give me a boost of confidence! Thanks!
Re: Please tell me I can do it!
You can do it!
Read some of the birth stories on here to counter the horror stories people are rudely telling you.
Is SO on the same page as you regarding a natural birth? Your labor support makes the world of difference
Hope it all goes smoothly.

Everyone likes to tell the roughest, toughest stories b/c they like the drama. There are tons of wonderful stories but since they're "boring" they don't get repeated as much.
At 36 weeks I'm getting nervous now too. Some days I'm excited and ready to go, others I just think WTF am I going to do?! When that happens I try some positive visualization - it helps calm me down to picture everything going perfect.
Ugh what is it with people telling pregnant women horrible birth stories.
I've had two fabulous natural births, and wouldn't do it any other way.
You can absolutely do this, I was amazed at how my body really just did what it needed and i really just tagged along. Yeah it's hard work but so is climbing a mountain.
Best wishes for your upcoming birth and your new wee arrival. very excited for you!!

Haha, at 38 weeks, I think I was studying my belly and seeing my upcoming L&D as an impossible physics dilemma. I was imagining Kirsty Alley yelling at John Travolta about watermelons and lemons.
Did you know that right now, your uterus is the most powerful muscle in your body? And it's smooth muscle, involuntary contractions only. That says to me, nature knows what it's doing. It's so easy to fight nature, though. That's why it's wonderful to be prepared with a whole battery of relaxation and pain relieving techniques. If you have time to read a book, "Easing Labor Pain" was a huge help to me.
Good luck!
You can do it!!!!
I did it, I know lots of others that have done it and just think about the thousands/millions of women that did it before modern medical interventions - that's how mankind got to where it is today!
