Please be extra careful with button batteries

I know some on these boards have gone through this, but I just want to get the word out again about this.  If your child swallows a button battery, within hours serious or even fatal damage can be done to their esophagus.  I am not trying to provoke fear, but it is very important to think of these things :)

Here is a recent story I read on a little girl that swallowed one.  She is doing ok but has a lot of stuff ahead of her.

Re: Please be extra careful with button batteries

  • This is very scary.  I thought my LO had swallowed a button battery a couple weeks ago because of a broken kitchen timer I let her play with that looked like a chicken.  After I went to go check on her, the battery compartment was open and there were no batteries.  I hadn't remembered if I had taken them out or not, because I heard these types of batteries were very dangerous.  So, just to be safe I took her to the ER and had X-rays done.  She didn't swallow anything.  I was scared to death, and felt horrible.  Lesson learned.  She has also had a musical birthday card, that has been since thrown away.  I'm gonna have to go around my house now and chuck anything with these batteries.  It's not worth the risk.
