Parenting after a Loss

Spilled BM whine

I finally understand the saying, crying over spilled milk. I knocked over a bottle of pumped BM, which went between the fridge and the cabinet. Not only did I lose three oz but I had to pull the heavy asss fridge out to clean it up. Bah! I exclusively pump so it wasn't extra milk, I have to pull some out of my extra small stash (15 oz)

  • I can totally relate to this. I knocked over mine the other day. I was so upset.  I am pumping for two so I have to pump about twice as much as we feed.

  • I sobbed when I would spill. One time MH forgot to put the bottle in the fridge before he went to bed. When I woke up and saw it sitting there I burst in to tears and he felt awful. So I told him I was going to hook the pump up to him for 20 minutes. lol

  • I cried over spilled milk a few times! It is soo depressing to watch your hard work spill across a table. My heart just sank the first time. I got mad at my husband one morning like 2 weeks after giving birth and I just reached for the closest thing I had to throw at him, and it happened to be a 3 oz bottle of BM. I have never been so mad and sad all at the same time! I laugh about it now, but at the time it was not so funny.

Our BF teacher told us about how she cried over spilled milk and I was sitting there thinking "oh that will never happen to me" (all smug).  Nope.  I spilled some a one day when my parents were coming over to watch Pip so we could get out of the house (this was at the height of the colic) and I sobbed for about 10 minutes because I thought we wouldn't be able to leave because she had no milk.  (We later found some in the freezer - thank goodness.)  Spilled BM is no joke and even when I pump now I handle it like it's a precious fluid.
