Late Term and Child Loss

Poems?

My brother and his wife just lost a baby at 20 weeks.  They are having a service for the baby and I was wondering if anyone had any poems or words that had helped them through this terrible time.

Thank you,

Leslie

Re: Poems?

  • The hospital gave us a little memory book/photo album and it had this poem in the very front...

    I may have been tiny

    and just too small

I may have struggled and gave it my all

But I was YOURS and I was HERE

I may not have been here for very long

My call to be an Angel Baby

    was just too strong

But I was YOURS and I was HERE

I may not have been able

    to do very much

but it's forever your heart that I will touch

I was YOURS and I was HERE!

  • Not necessarily poems, but there are a couple songs I've found to be comforting during this time, although they make me cry every.single.time, but the lyrics mean so much:

    Glory Baby - Mandy Mercer

I Will Carry You - Selah

Missing our sweet baby, with us 20 weeks 4 days, born into Heaven 4/21/2012
  • I like to remember the saying 'When you love something, then it loves you back in whatever way it has to love'. Reminds me that the love we had for our baby was recognized and that he loved us back to the degree that he could and he gave us something back - memories, joy, the way it brought my husband and I closer, etc.

***Congratulations to my TTCAL buddy Roxyttandme!! It's a GIRL!! Charlotte arrived on 9/29!!!!***
    PGaL/PAL Always Welcome!!
  • I thought of you and closed my eyes,
    And prayed to God today.
I asked what makes a Mother and a Father,
And I know I heard him say:
    A mother has a baby,
    This we know is true.
But, God, can you be a mother or a father,
When your baby's not with you?
    Yes, you can he replied,
    With confidence in his voice.
    I give many couples babies,
When they leave is not thier choice.
Some I send for a lifetime,
    And others for a day.
And some I send to feel your womb,
But theres no need to stay.
I just don't understand this God,
    I want my baby here.
He took a breath and cleared his throat,
And then I saw a tear.
I wish that I could show you,
What your child is doing today,
If you could see your child smile,
    With other children who say:
We go to earth and learn our lessons,
Of love and life and fear.
My mommy and daddy loved me oh so much,
I got to come straight here.
I feel so lucky to have a mom and dad,
Who had so much love for me.
I learned my lessons very quickly,
    My parents set me free.
I miss them both oh so much,
But I visit them each day.
    When they go to sleep,
On their pillow's where I lay.
I stroke their hair and kiss their cheeks,
    And whisper in their ears.
"Mommy and Daddy don't be sad today, I'm your baby and I'm here."
So you see my dear sweet one,
    Your children are Ok.
Your babies are here in My home,
They'll be at heavens gate for you.
So now you see what makes a mother and father.
It's the feeling in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of,
    Right from the very start.

My SIL gave this to me after I lost my boys, it was the first beautiful comforting thing I received.  I cried when she read it to me.

  • How very softly
    you
    tiptoed into my world.
    Almost silently
    ;
    Only
    a moment you stayed.
    But what an
    imprint
    Your
    footprints have left
    On our hearts.

"Now I lay you down to sleep,
    I pray the Lord your soul to keep;
Within his arms he'll hold you tight,
My Heavenly Angel, My Guiding Light

i put your name in the sand.
but the waves washed it away.
i put your name on my hand.
but i washed it away the next day.
i put your name on paper.
but i accidentally threw it away.
i put your name in my heart and forever it will stay

    Fly, fly little wing
    Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
    And fly again

    Fly, fly precious one
    Your endless Journey has begun
    Take your gentle happiness
    Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace all one word
    But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
    Until we meet.

    Fly, fly do not fear
    Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
    Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
    But I won't forget

    Fly, fly little wing
    Fly, where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
    Go now, find the light.

I have more at home. Especially ones that are appropriate for a funeral. When I get home I will post them for you.
