Anyone have to quit bedsharing?

We have been bedsharing with DD since she was a few weeks old. I used to love it, because we all got more sleep and I didn't have to fight with her to sleep in a crib. Lately, she has been way more fidgety (even while swaddled) and seems to wake a lot. If we leave her in her Snugabunny swing instead of bringing her to bed, she will often STTN.

For whatever reason, I feel SO guilty about having her sleep in the swing all night. Like either she should be sleeping with me, or in her crib. During the day, she naps either in the swing or on me in the Ergo. She never sleeps in her crib. I tried putting her down drowsy for a nap yesterday and she hated it.

I know if the swing works, I should probably just stick with it, but she will outgrow it eventually! I also worry about traveling and overnights if it's the only place she can comfortably sleep. Just looking for some advice if anyone else has been in this boat!

  • In those first few months, you're in survival mode. In that time, I did whatever I needed to do to get some sleep and my kids survived and thrived regardless. I would not be concerned.

If she likes the position the swing puts her in, you may have good luck with the rock n play sleeper. We used it until 5.5 months old both times since we didn't exclusively bedshare (LO would nap in there/start off at night before I went to bed there, then we'd bedshare after first wakeup).

I wouldn't worry too much about where your LO is sleeping right now.  If she's comfy in the swing, let her be for now.  DD didn't sleep anywhere but my chest in the recliner for the first 3 months and then we transitioned to bedsharing with her still on my chest since she couldn't sleep on her back. It sounds crazy but it worked--DD got sleep, I got sleep, and we were all happy.

  • we bedshared until dd was 5 months. then, she started sleeping like crap and woke up once or twice and hour. she just couldn't get into a deep sleep any longer. we decided to see if she needed to sleep on her own, so we put her in her crib. she slept 12 hours that night. she has been sleeping 12 hours a night ever since. she was ready for it.

i know nothing is capped, my computer sucks.
