Can i take otc cold medicine?

I am still BFing and feel like crap again today. The label on the cold medicine says ask a doc if bfing, but I don't really have a doctor. I guess I can ask dS's pedi? Anyone know if it is ok?

Re: Can i take otc cold medicine?

  • I'm not sure about all cold meds, but I have heard not to take any type of decongestant because it will dry your supply up.

I was told no decongestants by my doctor, she said only tylenol and the steamers or salt nasal sprays...sorry, I hope you feel better soon.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • When I was sick with DD my doc and the pedi agreed on Claritin.  It's actually an allergy medicine, but it gave me relief, didn't dry up my supply and very little is transmitted into BM.
