June 2012 Moms

My June Bug turned to a May flower

Ladies - All I will say that if something does not feel right with your pregnancy call your doctor or go visit L&D. I almost missed a sign and so did my doctor's office the previous day, and it almost ended badly.

On Tuesday I had gone to the doctor since I was in pain and vomiting and I just didn't feel right. I was not able to see my doctor, but I saw another doctor in the practice. Since the pain was on my left side and I was vomiting uncontrollably at that point they thought that my little girl was pushing against my stomach and she had dislodged it. I was given anti-nausea  medicine that day and sent home to rest for the rest of the day. When my husband got home on Tuesday after massaging my tummy he convinced are little one to move and instantly the pain went away.

Wednesday, I had no pain and went to work like normal. At the end of the day (4:50 pm), the pain was back on my left side. I massaged my tummy to convince the little one to move and the pain lessened so I started to drive home. Half way home the pain INCREASED and I had to pull over and wait for my husband to come get me. When we got home, I had husband shower and I was trying to just get comfy. I called my mom during this to help distract me and while talking, she mentioned that she was happy that I made it to 35 weeks, but she did not think I was going to make it to 36 weeks. She was pushing for me to go to L&D, and when my hubby got out of the shower she told him that L&D was the next stop and she would meet us there. Both my hubby & I thought that we were going in for pain management and didn't bring anything with us.

At L&D, the doc on call was talking to my OB and they were trying to get my pain and vomiting under control. At this point my mom arrived, and she stated that I was looking the worst I ever have in my life. The doc started me on pain meds and then we got the result of the bloodwork that was drawn. I had developed HELLP (a severe form of pre-e) and my platelets count was low enough that if I started to bleed there was no guarantee that I would clot to stop the bleeding. The only solution was to have my little one right then.

I thought that I still had time to try a vaginal birth (since it turns out I was dilating and my body was getting ready for it). My husband and mom talked me out of it,since time was of the essence and I needed to have my little one out. I agreed to a c-section, but I was not able to have anyone with me since it was an emergency and I was going to be put all the way under to speed up the process. But before the c-section I had to have 2 transfusions of platelets to help with the bleeding that I would have.  I went into the c-section at 11:43pm and my little one was born at 12:07am.

Good thing, my little one was able to breathe on her own and did not have to go to NICU. My condition has greatly improved since delivering my little one. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, had more platelet transfusions and am now home.

It was the scariest time of my life, but the having my little girl was all worth it. I had a pretty normal pregnancy, problems with some kidney stones but nothing major. I had thought that I was going to make it to full term, had no reason to believe otherwise. But, I am glad that I took the strange pain as a sign and wanted it checked out. I know that we are close to due dates, but now is the time to be cautious.

I wish you ladies the best for the rest of your pregnancy. I hope that none of you have to go through what I have just gone through.
